I usually go by a lot of things. If they don't like becoming a Mom, then I retire.. even at 2 yrs old. If they are healthy and love being a Mom, then I retire at 6, but always before their 7th birthday. If whelping takes a lot out of them, then I retire. There are many I have retired at 4 or 5. You can tell by the look in their eyes if they're having a good time or not..
