Things do come up, and (to use myself as a shining example), maybe she is waiting on a second set of gifts for you. People DO make mistakes about shipping, custom tax, etc. These mistakes can be corrected with a little patience.
For people who posted defending the sender's position or the receiver's position, I just see that we are all concerned that everyone has a good time. We all want people to be happy with the gifts they got, and we all want to feel good about what we sent. We are all on the same side, let's not forget that. After all, we all both bought and got gifts.
