Hi, I don't know a lot about taping but I start shaving the top 1/4 of the ears inside and out as soon as i see them grow over the tips. I use the peanut clipper from sally's beauty supply on the ears and butts. And it works awesome ! So usually by the time they are 4 weeks old I start or sooner to get them used to the sound of the clipper I have found with my puppies depending on the size and thickness of the leather on the ears that some of my puppies are born ears up and never go down they are the ones that are going to be smaller and have a thinner ear leather. Then the babies that have a thicker ear leather and larger ears it can take up to 4-6 months keeping them trimmed to come fully up. Usually rule of thumb is if you breed 2 yorkies that the ears are down the puppies will have down ears. If you breed 1 yorkie with up and 1 down you have a 50 50 chance in the puppies. But I am sure there are yorkies that this is not always true LOL ! You know yorkies they have a mind of their own And also if I see a puppy that has larger ears I will shave the whole ear and make sure to trim alll the way on the V . It will grow back. But the weight has to go if you want them to stand But the peanut clipper I have found in the 30 years I have trimmed ears and bottoms works the best and so easy to handle Hope this helps some~ Shawn
