Personally I believe in free feeding. I think especially when they are puppies, having food always available is the way to go. I have never had any get overweight doing this and I have also never had one exhibit any hypoglycemic symptoms. I think by having food always available they learn to eat only when they are hungry, they eat smaller amounts at one time, they do not feel the need to compete over the food if you have more than one, they do not rush their food which can lead to choking, and I do not worry that they might go hungry if I am a little late on errands.

If you have one that is underweight, then sometimes it is important to know exactly how much they are taking in, so free feeding might not be possible. But for the most part, I think free feeding is the best.
