I'm gonna have to say that most human medications are NOT good for pets. There are some that people do use, but i personally would not. I've been a tech for years and have seen what has happened to pets when people give them human medications, whether its teh right dose or the wrong dose.

Pet medication is NOT the same and i don't know why those vets said they were. if they were the same then rimadyl/deramaxx/metacam would be called aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid/ibuprofen/acetaminophen instead of the names stated or carprofen/deracoxib/meloxicam.

As for the OPs baby, it really depends on the vets choice as to what they send their patients home with. Remember, mostly all they do is spays, neuters, dentals, and other small procedures. Most pets don't need pain meds for spay/neuter after the first day. Mine was sent home with rimadyl but i didnt give it to her because she didnt need it. However sometimes you will get the pet that is alittle more sensitive then others and may need pain meds. in this case i would call your vet and ask for metacam. I wouldn't give aspirin after a surgery becasue its a blood thinner and god forbid something happens and your baby needs to go back into surgery. on another note, antibiotics aren't needed after surgery either. they are given to appease the pet owner. the pet gets enough antibiotics during surgery or afterwards at the vet that they do not need anymore. most pet owners will freak out if they aren't sent home with ABs LOL i don't blame them because its just what everyone believes and hears.
