The post that I just looked at before this one was the exact same thing minus the chewing of the carpet. Last week someone else posted about this too.
I'm so sorry cute, precious Chewie (repeat often) is making you lose your mind. My suggestion would be to get some plexiglass and attach it with Zip ties to the gate. Unless he has wings we will not be able to get over the gate then.

Good advise.. I would say he climbed it. They are quite the escape artists. The plexi glass would work.. but turn the gate around so he can not stand on the crossbars. They should be towards you. Then put the plexiglass on his side. Make sure there are no sharp edges.
Your little one is very precious.. and mom.. he only wants to be with you because he loves you so much.
