The "treat & praise" worked beautifully for Toto's pad training! She too tried the little trick of squeezing out a little tiny spot of pee pee for a treat [we found this so cute]! After the "critical" period of watching her like a hawk in the beginning everything kinda tapered off ... she would come and let us know that she had used the pad and wanted her treat. Later on that stopped too and it's just as natural as breathing for her ... she needs to pee pee ... she goes to her pad [sometimes pretty doggoned fast! ] We do on occasion praise her if she happens to be watching when her fresh pad is put down and this makes her happy! We never, ever speak harshly to her nor do we allow anyone else to do it! I suppose there may be a drawback to that as she gets very upset and cries at the sound of loud, angry voices because she never hears anything of that sort in her home. The only loud voices she hears is playful, happy voices. But, as orinskye said, whatever works for the individual!
