My rule of thumb is 4 days. I would never wait for 10 days... that doesn't make sense to me. The bigger they get, they bigger everything gets and there is more blood. I do the clamp and twist method and have never had one bleed.

It sounds to me that you are inexperienced at docking a tail yourself so I would definitely take the puppy to the vet and have them do it. Have them walk you through it if you plan to do this for yourself in the future.

Also, I did tails and dewclaws on 2 puppies yesterday. One weighed 4oz. at birth and the other was 5oz. at birth.
