You know, this is a very good point....whelping is always a risk, no matter the size or age. Makes more sense to evaulate each girl personally, instead of applying an arbitrary number. (Although I do have to admit that I have limits in my mind) For example, a seven pound girl may have a very small pelvis and not suitable for breeding at all. On the other hand, a five pound girl may be built perfectly for whelping and have no trouble. Or a six year old may do fine, while a two year old may not be a good mommy. It's good to remember that there are other factors involved besides the numbers.
