I would definitely recommend booties in the snow. I think booties are more important than a coat. Don't buy fancy, leather fitted ones with heels. Those are impossible to walk in. Buy the simplest ones you can find. A fleece sack works just fine. A fleece sack covered with a waterproof material is even better. Velcro the top.
Your pup will hate them at first. But be consistent. Put them on, hold a treat a few feet away from them and don't give up until they take a few steps. Gradually increase the number of steps they take.
It took me about 2 weeks before they stopped fighting me and agreed to go for long walks with booties on. And even now, I have to fight them to get them on. But it makes winter walks tolerable.
