Another thing: the breeder told me that my pup was the runt of the litter. The only way he could get anything to eat was to grab a mouthful and go some place else to eat it where he was undisturbed by his larger littermates. So that explained why (at first) he grabbed a mouthful to deposit on my family room floor to eat. In a few days, when he realized there was no competition, he only dropped it on the floor beside his bowl. Eventually, he learned that he could leave it in the bowl to eat
