Hmmmm - I'm not sure that I entirely agree, but this is a topic I'm still researching and trying to learn about so bear with me.
I know cats are obligate carnivores, but dogs, although carnivorous don't qualifyas obligate carnivores. In fact, sometimes I wonder if they shouldn't be describes as omnivorous, like bears.
I THOUGHT ( but could be wrong) that unlike felines who shake out stomach contents of their prey, that dogs consume grains and vegetation when eating stomach contents.
Also, unlike obligate carnivores, dogs are able to digest certain amounts of carrion and even (as is proven by some of the poorer quality commerical foods) live for years on a cereal diet. Not that I'm suggesting this is a GOOD thing
I find this subject fascinating though... so many opinions, experiences and so much to learn. Please don't feel I'm being argumentive, I'm just looking for clarification and a greater understanding.
