The Rule of Three We had the same problem. So we let the kids make lists of THREE things. The three things on their list is stuff they do not have to eat. Those are the only things they are allowed to skip out on.
Also if I make something new, they have to try three bites of it. If they really hate it they have the option of adding it to their list, but that means something else has to come off of it. They are only allowed 3 things on the list at any given time.
I had the same problem as you and someone on another board suggested to this me and it has worked like a charm in our house.
