I have a 5-hour rule. They are not allowed to be alone for more than that. In three years that I've had a Yorkie, I've only broken it 2 or 3 times by no more than an hour. I work 10-hour shifts, so I come home on my dinner break and take them for a walk. Then my wife gets home in another hour or 2.

I'm sure they can handle being alone more, but I just feel too guilty thinking of them sitting home alone day after day doing nothing.
