| Next GE.. I saw the thread where you guys were concerned. I was thinking about giving gift cards. Because for me I know that its hard to go into a local store to see where the toys are made. And plus I don't have that many pet stores in my area. So I was thinking about giving either a gift card, or one of those relodable cards. What do you think? |

| I was kinda thinking the same thing. I know i enjoyed seeing what someone else picked out for my baby. I might buy a few things and then a little gift card...maybe even to one of their favorite online stores. who knows... i think for the most part...it shouldn't be too hard to buy for people. Especially if they are specific in what their "wants" and "dont wants" are...if it is, I think a gift card is a great idea.

| I think a gift card is a great idea (especially for an online store). We should have them put their favorite store on the form (maybe they already do--this is our first GE so I don't know ) I think if everyone will be honest about what they don't want their baby to have (and not feel embarrassed by having a long list of "no's" or worry about seeming ungrateful), everything will be fine! Bella and I can't wait!

| That would be a great idea. Then you could pick out your presents and show them on here. Good going girl.

| Gift cards are a great idea, but, I think it might also be good to have a few things to open with them. Just my two cents.

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | Gift cards are a nice idea but i would much rather open a box that was filled with love and thought. To me gift cards really aren't a thoughtful way of giving gifts you don't have to go out and think of what to give them. Besides it's fun to get something your buddy loves for their dogs and find that your dogs love it as well. I love being personal with everyone and this is a great oppertunity not only to get to know someone else but for them to know you as well. How would anyone get to know you with a gift card?

| I thought about doing gift cards too and a few little things to open as well. I also thought about listing our favorite and local places and online places on our GE info sheet AND mentioning that we do NOT need toys. I really LOVE the gift card idea and I know a lot of people do not think they are thoughtful, BUT to me they are!! I have been wanting a few things and if I had a gift card...that would be even better!! A gift card to places that aren't just dog places either......but that sell do stuff...like Target, etc. Just because you have the dog stuff AND the scrapbooking stuff, etc all in one place.

Administrator | Thank you for the suggestion. We are opposed to gift cards, as they are not very personal, and we do not want to turn the YT Gift Exchange into something like a "Money Exchange". And since there are members from all over the US (and there are Canada and UK participants in the GE too), not all stores are in all cities where members may live. There still are things that you can make yourself (whether it be treats, clothes, or crafty things) for your secret buddy or things you can buy that are not treats, or clothes, or toys. Some ideas may be: Pet or Yorkie picture frames, with a printed out picture (or Photoshopped picture of your Yorkie with their Yorkie) Personalized US Postage Stamps (at www.stamps.com) Paintings or sketch drawings or other artistic endeavors you may know how to do Painted treat jars Custom Yorkie greeting cards Some of the best gifts are personalized and not necessarily store bought items. We know YorkieTalkers are very creative and there's a lot more creative ideas that can be thought of that do not involve clothes, treats, or toys. And the Gift Exchange is of course optional for all Donating Members. We only set a minimum amount of a $20 value, and participants should NOT expect anything more than that. Some members may want to spend more, and that is perfectly fine, but the Gift Exchange is to get members to get to know one another better, and not to show off how much a person spends or receives. It is perfectly fine to list items that your Yorkie can and can't have, but please do not make it just a shopping list of things you "want" and make it within reason. Writing in the GE form that you want a $100 carrier is just not what the YT GE's are all about (not that anyone has done that). |
