| Keeping it real... Hi all you gift exchangers!!! I just wanted to drop a quick note to ask a "real" question. I see that most who have signed up are either 1. New or 2. participated in the last GE. I did not keep up with the last GE, but have participated in quite a few. I know admin did change the $$$ amount minimum. My question is, and please answer honestly.... Are you planning on spending a fair amount or A LOT?? I am asking this because in every GE I have been in, I usually spent 300 bucks or more. We are going to the Bahamas in March and Im putting back for all of our extra fun!! February is Macks birthday month, and for anyone who knows him, also knows what a monumental event everyday is for him much less a whole year!!! He will be a BIG 2! I want to participate in this GE, but to be honest, I don't know If I can do as much as I usually do and don't want someone to feel cheated... Thanks in advance for your answers!!!

This is my first GE, but I did watch the last one very closely. I will be brave enough to answer your question (kind of lol) because i really want you to be in this one! I plan on spending a good amount (well over the minimum requirement), but there's no way I can afford $300. Also, I think everyone can afford different amounts and we all know that going in. We (me and Mandie) are really just doing it for the fun and getting to know new people, I hope. I'd love for us to make some new friends since we are new to the forum.

| Also, I was thinking..if everyone wanted to give you an idea but not really "go public", they might try sending you a PM. I just did

| Hey Kendra...im not participating in this one just because of finances...ruby needs her spay and teeth pulled and it needs to be done this month but I am going to participate in the next one. To be honest I was thinking of ideas in my head of gift ideas and I know that I would spend more then the minimum but no way could I afford $300. That being said...as a gift receiver....I would never feel cheated if my gift box was the minimum...its the fact someone took the time to participate and choose gifts for one of my babies! I would hope that would be the majority would feel the same way...I say participate...someone is going to enjoy getting your gift exchange box!!!

| To be honest, it really depends on who I get...if it's someone I feel a connection with (which is mostly everyone who has signed up) then I'll spend more. I think that happens a lot. You put more thought and effort into something if you know the person (as much as we can on YT! ). But I'll probably be spending around $150. I think Christmas is a bit more over because it's Christmas.

| I think it's great you posted this. I know there has been some behind the ge discussions about this in the past. I have two things to say...well maybe three. The ge got a little crazy and that scared some away. I am so glad you put it out there. I would be so hurt if someone thought a box I sent wasn't great! I sew so I can make a lot of the gifts I send...if I counted the price I charge for some of the items I make (like quilt etc) it would be in the 300 range but it is also my time . If I do it this time what I send will be more normal-- i will try very hard not to go crazy but if i do i know its because i want to not for what i get back. i have received some amazing boxes in return too! When it's not fun or when you think more about what you are getting is when you(not you ...but who ever feels that way ) need to take a break. The only thing I would hope for is to see my sb really put thought into the box and they had a great time.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I did not keep up with it exactly, but in the last GE, which was our first, I'd say we spent at least over a $100. It's hard for me to keep a budget. LOL. But we are going to try to be more thrifty time. We will buy things, but I think I'll make a few things as well. My husband just changed jobs and with the move, we are having to watch the finances a bit.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi all . I think it's important to remember the spirit and intention of the GE - it was created for having fun, connecting to others, and for giving/receiving special little gifts for our yorkies. The minimum to participate in the GE is $40. Years ago, the GE participants really tried to spend closely in the ballpark of whatever the current limit was...sure people went over a bit, here or there, but they generally stayed close to it. And during those GEs, we had TONS of members participating...so many people! And they had a blast. When people start spending $100, $200, $300 or whatever - it ostensibly locks out a huge portion of members who would like to participate. We realize it's no ones intention to lock others out, however, that is what it does. When members read about the more recent GEs and/or see how much people are spending - there is no way they'd be comfortable participating if they want to spend around the intended limit. I wish people would commit to a reasonable limit that more realistically allows for ALL members who are interested to participate, without feeling that their spending limits won't be "good enough".

| I was preparing to sign up yesterday when I got hit with a shocker. Due to a formality my dd failed to inform me about she lost her funding for school this semester. Sooooooo, if I do decide to sign up, I will be one of the ones spending less. I will most likely spend more than the 40.00 min., but I will have to keep my box at 80-100 and that's only because I don't count the items I hand make myself. I would love for others to join me. On another note. When I sign up one of my girls, it's always all about them. I don't want my buddy ever to feel like they have to include something for me. And to those that want to join but are worried about the spending limit, we'll happily be your buddy.

| I have had this battle with myself... My answer is I will join the ge because I enjoy making stuff and putting the box together. When ever I focus on what I get I ruin it fir myself. So ...please join...it's fun and agree do what you feel good about.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I've just recently fulfilled all of my requirement for participations. Yay ! I'm thinking about signing up but Im not sure. I would love to give my babies the experience of receiving a gift and be able to make someone else's baby feel special too. But I am a thrifty shopper in ever regards of the word. Im not saying that Im cheep or that if I join the GE that my gift will be cheep but just that I want to get the most for my money while making a nice gift for who ever I get as my GE buddy. I thought about even getting out my sewing machine and making something personalized. It wouldn't be the greatest but it would be special. If I join I will more than likely go over the limit in order to try and make it a really nice gift. Plus $40 doesn't go a long way these days. But, there is no way that I could afford to or want to spend hundreds of dollars on a gift exchange. To spent hundred of dollars on a gift when the limit is set at $40 seem a bit extreme. Dont get me wrong, who wouldn't Love to receive a box full of wonderful expensive items for their little one form their GE buddy. But than if it were me, it would feel a little less special knowing that I got such a awesome gift and that I was only able to send someone something of a lesser value. It would make me feel really crappy. I know it the thought that counts and thats how it should be. I think it would be a fun and exciting experience for me and my pups. I love to shop for people and my dogs. But I dont want to disappoint anyone ! My idea of a really nice gift is probably not what someone else would consider a great gift. Maybe the limit could be set within an amount and by signing up you promise not to exceed that amount. That way no one is outdoing anyone and everyone get a special gift that they know was withing the limits and can feel good about joining and sending a gift themselves. You know the limits ahead of time and you agree to only spend up to that amount. No less No more. I think that a $40-$80 limit would be a great. That way if you want to go over the $40 without exceeding the $80 limit than do. That way everyone can feel good about what they send and not quilty about what they couldn't. Ok... I'm done now , But you did ask !!
