Well, I asked admin if I could be in this next GE. The rules state you have to be a member for 3 months. I figured I might have a chance, but the rule is ACTUALLY that I have to have been a member since Jan. 1. so...we have to sit this one out

I AM SOOO BUMMED. Already was collecting gifts, and ideas...guess we'll save them for the next!

Is it dumb that this really has bummed me out, like I'm in a bad mood? Just so disappointed. It'll be fun to watch more hints and smileboxes, though. Just sucks.

So there's the clarification, gals. You have to have been a member since Jan. 1.

I just PM'd you before seeing your thread, yep same thing with me, considering the GE is not till May, I can't believe we are not allowed in. I asked for a reconsideration, maybe a little support for other Gift Exchangers could not hurt, we are so close it's not like we just joined

and yes I am bummed, just ordered something and have a few other things I was going to buy.

Awww you are both so refreshing on here, Dblain and Carmeow, I understand how you feel but there really is a reason forums like this have to have some rules etc., I love how excited and in to it you both are and you have gorgeous pups!

I can't help but imagine that when you do get to participate there will be some REALLY lucky buddies out there! The next GE will come around faster than you think, don't be discouraged

I'm about to go to work, so that just about ruined any chances of having a good day, lol

I know they won't bend the rules for us, and I know there are rules for a reason! But I think we both talk enough for everyone to know us pretty well already, LOL!

Ah well..we'll be around for the next one...

I had to wait for my first gift exchange, too. It was well worth the wait. You have to understand that while neither of you would ever sign up for a gift exchange and not do your part, there are loads of people who would. Making new members wait a few months helps to avoid having casual new users sign up then lose interest or even worse sign up just to get freebies never intending to send gifts themselves.

I did the same thing you did -- by the time I was eligible I had a stash of neat things for the GE (I still have quite a stash for future ones). I still enjoyed the GEs I didn't participate in, and got a lot of ideas for gifts to send by reading all the posts.

the way I see it though it's not fair. The rules state you must be on YT for three months. If the signup is still open on 4/11, (which it probably will be based on the dates on the last one) I will be a member for three months by then. Now I just learned from Admin, that you have to have joined by the 1st of the month. So I guess it's really more than three months

Following that logic if you join YT on the second of the month, you have to wait one day shy of four months. To me three months is three months. I know that there will be another GE, but I was geeked for this one, the next one will be in July or August, summers are short in MI, we boat on the great lakes and live on a small lake so we are either away on the boat or seem to have guests, I doubt I will have the time to participate then. So yes I am bummed and a little angry because the rules are misleading.

above is copied from the rules, so if the signup is still open after my three months date I don't understand why I would be excluded

and by the time three months comes I will probably have double the required posts

The time will go by faster than you think... It will be worth it to get to watch a gift exchange without the pressure of participating. Admin has rules for a reason... I think gift exchanges should be earned. It's not something you get to participate in if you haven't donated, haven't posted enough, or haven't been around long enough.

Just take this extra time to prepare and start shopping

Yep, I agree. I am glad the rules are there. They are the same for everyone, so it is fair.

Sorry you have to wait, but rules are implemented because of past problems or to circumvent any problems from surfacing in the first place.

The GE's come around pretty quickly! You will be better prepared when you are eligible for the next GE

We are looking forward to the next GE that both of you can participate in! I had to wait too so I understand wanting to jump in

I don't agree however that the rules are unfair...as they apply to all. And I am sure there has been a lot of consideration when creating these rules. Unfair to me is when you are held to a different standard from everyone else.

I expect rules and appreciate that they have them. Fair is probably the wrong word, maybe misleading or not clear would be better. Perhaps if I give you a few examples you will understand my thinking. If I was to borrow money from you on April 5th and was told to pay you back in one month would you expect payment on May 5th or June 1st. If you bought a 1 month gym membership on June 10th would it expire on July 10th or August 1st. I could be wrong but I think most people would choose the same date of the prior month, not the first of the new month. So being told I could do something 3 months after I joined naturally had me thinking three months from the date I joined, not three months and close to three weeks later. Oh well I guess it is what it is, I did not expect special treatment, but I am hoping that someone realizes how easy it is to misunderstand this rule.

I guess I don't understand what you don't understand.
The start of the GE signups is April 1st and you're required to be a member for at least 3 months. You joined January 11th. You won't have been a member for 3 months on April 1st. If you had joined before January 1st you'd be a member for at least 3 months.
