If my thinking is correct on the last two clues, I don't think your buddy is in the US. I'm gonna pretty safely say that Slade is not your buddy. Can't wait to see who is though!

The major oak is about 10km away,sherwood forest covers our area,we often walk through it.
Byron was at Newstead Abbey 5km away
DH Lawrence was at Eastwood,10kmaway.
The pills I think were Boots,a big pharmasutical

sp company
Not too sure of the herald.If you googled our surname you may have found a coat of arms,dates back to 1500.
Fantastic clues.I thought it might be me but everyone said that you only get the same SB at Valentine's GE.this put me off.
Hope you enjoyed finding out about where I live.

Yes, I did research - and it was fun. The cave picture was even taken off the website of a cave near you

The pills were Ibuprofen which was discovered there
The red shield was actually the Salvation Army logo to represent the birth of William Booth there

I had no idea we would have each other!! Did that happen to anyone else this time out?
