| OMGoodness, this dress is amazing! I have learned to do smocking on my embroidery machine but have never tried it by hand. It's something I always wanted to learn but just haven't taken the time. You do beautiful work. I'm not sure about what it is you are looking for? I know there are smocking templates you can find online and there is a magazine called "Smocking" but other than that I don't know what to suggest. Keep at it though, your dress is truly amazing!!

| The only smocking that I have done for Mina is inset with piping on either side. You did a lovely job. Is there something in particular that you are having trouble with? I have been smocking for about 26yrs,mostly for my 3 daughters. Stacked smocking is tuffer to me than english. If you are going to do stack you will have to find graphs that fit only so many rows high. I like the pattern for the dress that you used. Is this something that you altered for the color look? |

| 12 pleats/heart x 6 hearts = 72 pleats The largest design will have to have a multiple of pleats that divides into 72 (for the size for your dog) or adjust equally with spaces or stretch the design by a stitch or two to make it go. So, on that dress, you could make 12 smaller hearts, each with 6 pleats, or 3 larger hearts, each with 24 pleats... or 4 hearts with 18 pleats. Or 5 hearts each with 14 pleats, and a pleat/stitch left on each end. Or to make it easier... just smock your fabric before you cut the pattern? BTW: Welcome to YT! Love your Yorkie!

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Oh my! I simply adore that dress! It is absolutely gorgeous! Both me and my Mom just raved over it! We love your 'yorkie' too! What a cutie! Do you sell these dresses? We would love to have something smocked for our babies. I have a yorkie and she has a maltese. Welcome to YT!

| I certainly don't belong in the fashion forum but I had to click the thread to see what the word smock meant! And I'm glad I did because your "Yorkie" is one of the cutest I've seen!

On a dog dress, I think you'd be better off making a normal dog vest out of a lightweight cotton, then attach the bishop dress yoke around the neck of the vest and the gathered skirt attached to the sides of the vest. With just using the gathered skirt it would be impossible to get a secure fit on a dog, bc you need the band behind the front legs to hold it on the dog. You could buy a bishop dress at a thrift shop and see what you would need to do to alter it to fit your dog, and experiment with trying different ways of fitting it and securing it to the dog.
