Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Fabric Storage? Sewing Rooms? Anybody seen any good ideas lately? I'm making a small area in my scrapbooking room for my new obsession with sewing. I found a small desk, chair on Craigslist today for $25 and my hubby picked it up for me. I am going to paint it and re-cover the seat of the chair with some cute fabric. But I was wondering about storage ideas. Any ideas? Pix would be great too.

| What I would do since you are starting out, is buy some large plastic storage containers in a color that matches your decor, and use those to store fabric. You can also throw things to keep out of sight (and out of KS reach) in there when you finish...spools of thread, swatches, rulers...patterns. You'll be surprised at how many things this sewing addiction creates.

| I have been sewing for quite a while. I have tried storage containers, under the bed boxes, cardboard boxes marked with a list of what is in it. My current form of storing fabric is a bookcase. I put all of my plain pastels in a stack, darker plain fabric in a stack, holiday fabrics in a stack, tiny print (doggie dresses) in a stack, and large print in a stack. When I cut things out I put EVERYTHING for a project in a gal ziplock (it can be used over again),I can add any special idea notes to the bag as well. This way I can lay everything out and cut out for an entire day and then sew when life allows. You can even stack the project bags on a shelf. I can always see quickly what I have so I dont purchase what I dont need. I also keep my patterns (about 40yrs worth) in a file cabinet (craft, doggie, childrens, mens). |

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Thanks for all of the great tips guys! Wonderful ideas!!! I really really like that mini bolt of fabric storage idea! I am thinking I can do that and put the mini bolts in the drawers of my new desk, plastic storage bins, or cabinet. I'm off to look at more ideas now that I have some down time. Katie Scarlett is asleep on my feet and the hubby just went to bed. He has to go out to work tonight. Tomorrow I am sewing!!! Yay!

| Love the hangers for the fabric and the ribbon. I have a plastic storage dresser that has ribbon in one drawer, specialty buttons in one and lace in the last two drawers. I can pull one of the drawers out and put it on my cutting table to lay out with fabric when brainstorming as to what notions I want to use. |

| If you are tight for space (and you will be once you become a fabric addict) those storage bags that you pull the air out of with your vacuum work real well under the bed.

As for ideas, I can kill a whole day doing nothing but drooling over images on Pinterest. Just type in sewing rooms or craft storage- but don't say I didn't warn you!

I have yet to get sucked into Pinterest. Im afraid to look! I have a hard enough time putting the laptop down because of YT and FB,nevermind that LIFE just gets in the way of being creative. I may have to break down and take a look, but it will have to wait until after school ends.
