| Pregnant for the first time!!!! HI everyone.....I am new to this board and excited about my first litter of Yorkies!! I bought my two babies 3 years ago (from two separate litters) and now they're gonna be mommy and daddy!! I am new to dog breeding, but I am a horse breeder so not new to the birthing thing. I understand they are two totally different animals, but I feel like the experience is the same. I am on 24 hour call with my mommy horses and get in there and have had to assist with foaling. My momma dog will be 7 weeks on Friday and she is sooooo big already. We will be having x-rays to determine how many pups she has in there. I have read a TON and feel that I am as prepared as I can be.....is there any advise from you veterans out there that I should know that maybe the "books" aren't telling me? What about tail docking and dew claws? Is this something that I can do by myself or do I have to take them to the vet?? |

| I am no vetren, new to this site as well. I have just had my first litter. I do understand though from what I've read on here that the X-rays are not all ways right. Also as far as tail docking and dew claws being removed I have seen several sites on this that tell you how to do it. I guess it would be what you are comfortable with. I did not have my pups done because for one they are not 100% yorkie and second I could not do that to them and my mommy's isn't done so I felt no need. Oh and by the way you may already know they do need done when they are 3 days old. |

| Congratulations and welcome to YT. I think I'd leave the tail docking to the vet.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | You do the tail docking and dew claws yourself????? Wow, I didn't know that was an option, but don't think I would have the courage to do it myself. Would love to know how you do it though...what do you use? And, OUCH ...surely you don't RIP the dew claws out as asked by Txgurl?

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Oops, by the way...Congratulations Nuts4Yorkies on your upcoming first litter and good luck when whelping time comes. My female will be 7 weeks along this coming Saturday (our first litter also), so we're probably going to be busy with our mommies around the same time. Lexie's expected whelping date is October 20th; yours date is thereabouts too?
