| Puppy Advice Please I'm running into a small problem in the morning with my little one. Sparky is now 4 1/2 months and super healthy and strong, and a good 6 pounds. Eating great, drinking great, doing everything great really....we're even really improving with stopping the barking. In the AM, when my husband and I are upstairs (our 2 yr. old lhasapoo sleeps with us), my alarm goes off very early (5:15 AM) for me to get out of bed and get ready for work. I never go downstairs, I go right from the bedroom to bathroom and hit the shower. My little Yorkie, in his little puppy den, in the downstairs bathroom, hears my alarm and once he hears that, since he's been alone sleeping in his little bed all night, he barks and barks and barks and barks.....my husband sleeps through it and I really don't mind it cause I'mm in the shower...I'm concerned because this morning, when I got downstairs, he kinda sounded raspy with his bark and coughed a bit, because I don't get done getting ready and get downstairs until about 6:20, he was barking for a good full hour straight.... I'm not sure how to handle this, but I cuddled him and hugged himm this morning and gave him tons of kisses cause I felt bad he had a sore throat, but he's not big enough to sleep in the big boy bed with us, and I fear if I bring him in our room, he'll bark because he'll see Chewy on the bed. I just don't think he can hold his pee all niight yet, and he's still too puppy-ish (i.e., gets so excited to be on the bed only wants to play, when the rest of the family is ready for sleep). Any ideas on how to solve this problem....I felt so bad for his little throat this morning.... |

| barking in the morning.... I understand your concern and your puppy's. If your worried about him peeing on your bed why not crate train him so that he can sleep upstairs with the rest of the family. He might do better because he will be able to see everyone and won't feel so alone. I went through the same thing when I first got my lil girl Hershie. She didn't like the fact that she was left all alone when she knew were were all in another room when she knew someone was awake. When I moved her crate into my bedroom, she did alot better and I didn't have anymore problems with her barking for attention. I never had a problem with her getting to sleep or even staying asleep while we were all in bed but when someone was up she wanted to know what was going on and it sounds as if your baby is the same way.

| Instead of getting right in the shower, could you go down and take him out and then let him hang out with you in the bathroom? |

| Poor Lonesome Baby! Please take the baby out first thing. And I like the idea of baby hanging out in the bathroom with you, too. I have steps for the kids to get up on my bed and two doggy beds in my bedroom. As soon as they can get onto my bed by themselves that is where they sleep. The puppies want to play when they first get on the bed at night but settle down after a few minutes. I have 7 Yorkies and they all seem to find a spot near me and I am surrounded by fur babies all night. It is not unusual to wake during the night to watch puppies playing on the floor or hearing those tiny feet running down the hall.

| What I do every morning is when my alarm goes off at 6:10am, they wake up, and I go to the bathroom, then talk with my babies, like, You all want to go out??? I get them all excited, open my bedroom door, and they all run to the doggie door, I open it, and they all go out to pee. We do this every morning. They wait for me to go to the bathroom first (thank God) But I have a doggy door and a dog run. Makes a big difference. It's doing the same this every morning. If your little one knows you will be down to see him/her after the alarm goes off, or like others have said, bring your baby up with you in the bathroom. I am probably rambling now.............Good luck with your baby...

| I need to go out! I live out in the country and my Yorkies know to stay out of the road. Yes, it is possible without invisible fencing. All I have to do is ask the kids if they need to go outside to do puppy business and the rush is on! If T Wilson lives where she has to walk her baby on a sidewalk, she needs to get a good bathrobe or whatever and take the baby out first thing! I need to go to the bathroom when I get up and assume they need to go, too.

| Hi everyone! Thanks so much for all the responses! Taking him up to the bathroom with me seems like a very good idea. He's still going on wee wee pads and I'm going to allow him to continue to use the pads because my husband and I are both lawyers and work quite a bit, so we don't want the little one to have to hold his pee for 8+ hours. He's so teeny! That just seems mean...I live in Northern NJ, but near a very urban area, so all walks must be on leashes on sidewalks, and we don't have a fenced in backyard. What I've been doing lately is just getting 90% ready, then heading downstairs and my 2 yr old Lhasapoo will come down off the bed and join me to go see his baby brother. I then take out little Sparky (my Yorkie) and let Chewy and Sparky play while Mom finishes her makeup and packing up her bag for work. He's getting really good with holding his pee for the night, I've been testing by sleeping on the couch with my two babies....but he does get off the bed in the night to go on the pad in the living room. My concern is that we have a four post very high bed. We have steps that my lhasapoo walks right up, so I also have to get the little one used to those.... Just doesn't seem fair to allow one on the bed and not the other.... Thanks again for all the advice everyone! I really appreciate it! |

| Oh -- and the barking isn't because he needs to go out -- he has wee wee pads in his little bathroom den I've created for him, and he goes in therre (though sometimes he waits til I come down, then goes and shows me he's going -- cause he wants the lovin and praise from Mommy). So cute... It's purely an attention, "hey - get down here and play with me!" |

| Lonesome Baby Yorkies are very social animals and love being with their people and with other pets. He hears you up and wants your attention. He is lonely. Give that baby more loving!

| First Morning in the Bathroom Hi everyone! So this morning, I got up super early 5:30 AM to get ready and get a suit on (visiting another firm today). The minute the alarm went off, as usual, little Sparky-man decided he wanted his Momma...so I went right down and got him out of his little den, and took him upstairs along with two of his little toys and put him in the bathroom with me. I closed the door and brought in a wee pad and he just investigated and played...he started to whine at me through the glass of the shower cause apparently he wanted to check out what the water and noise was all about...but this was a really good suggestion! He sat at my feet while I toweled off and starting getting ready. Then when it came time to get dressed, I grabbed him, opened the bathroom door, shut the bedroom door and the let him run around the bedroom, and Chewy came down off the bed to play around with him. Success! He seemed very happy and content with this scenario, so I think this will be my normal routine from now on. Thanks again everyone! |

| Oh yes! We had a wonderful conversation about Mr. Gingerbread man....as usual, I informed Sparky it was not that time of the year yet and Mr. Gingerbread man shouldn't come out to play, but he wasn't having it. He continously flung Mr. Gingerbread man into the wall, then grabbed him and repeated...apparently, Mr. Gingerbread man was very bad....or so Sparky told me. ;-) Chewy and Sparky's Momma |
