| Looking for Female Yorkie in Southern Indiana I am looking for a female yorkie in or around southern Indiana. I originally wanted a puppy but have realized that I am not ready for the responsibility of house training a new puppy. I am looking for a female that is house trained and that doesnt need the extensive care that a small puppy does. However, I am prepared to take care of a young female. I feel that I could provide a Yorkie with the love and care it needs and definately deserves. I am also looking for a Yorkie that will not cost me a fortune. I understand they are expensive but I am unable to spend above $600 for one right now. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks |

| I can give you a couple of names of breeders in Northern Indiana however the price you are seeking is too low especially for a female they are always priced higher. You might want to look for a rescue their prices are lower and they are usually adults

| Actually I'm willing to spend 1,000 if it gets me a small, healthy, full blooded little girl with breeding rights. I don't necessarily want to breed her now, but if I want to in the future I want to be able to. I really want a Yorkie and if i have to wait i will. I am still in high school and getting ready to graduate. I will be going to college but i plan on commuting. I really want to add a yorkie to my life. There are two other breeds I love but neither of them come close to how much I love yorkies. Thank you for your help. |

I would save up and invest into a really nice line so when you have your first litter you will be on the right path from the beginning. Seems alot of pet breeders on this forum selling pets to bred with open reg etc. Breeding should be taken very seriously and responsibly. And only the best dogs should be bred, not just breeding lil fifi to lil joey because you want to have puppies. More thought should be put into it. This surely doesn't make for preserving this breed we all love. This concerns me for the future of the bred. Juzme

| College is harder than high school. Please wait until you have settled in the college life before adding a pet to your life. Plus, it's much harder to find places that allow pets if you plan on renting. If you're commuting you won't really have extra time to spend with a yorkie yet. College, commuting(and maybe a job?), there's not going to be lot of free time. I waited over a decade before getting my yorkie. It was worth the wait. My sister just finished college last year. She had two dogs. It was a nightmare having to deal with them while going through her schooling. She ended up rehoming one and the other is staying with our mother STILL(half a year after she's graduated).

| I agree with all it is a great under taking yorkies are high maitenance they require alot of time and i noticed you want a small baby please dont breed a small baby get a akc standard girl to start out with 5 to 6 pounds little furbabies having babies can be a nightmare if you want to become a breeder later make sure you buy for quality it will take more than 1000 to buy into nice lines and when you do get one please just dont breed to any male that you come across please do your home work you want to make sure this girl you are looking for is in a forever home with you good luck in you search https://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm Last edited by cutiepieyorkies; 02-22-2007 at 08:19 AM. |

| My breeder is in Angola Indiana at www.beautifulyorkiesforsale.com. She had adult females for sale, but mostly puppies. Good luck finding your furbaby.

| Thanks a lot you guys. You've really helped a lot. I understand your concerns about my young age and the responsibility of a puppy. I know that I am not ready for a puppy. I have never had a yorkie but I've been researching and reading about them for months now. I won't have enough money for one untill the end of May but I would like to start out with a young adult before I even try to raise a puppy. I do have one dog now she stays outside because she is a spaz and clears of tables with her tail. Her name is Koda and she is a Great Pyraneese (i hope i spelled that right). She is a lover and has me and my family well trained. I am going to wait a while to get a yorkie puppy. But thank you guys again for all your help. I really appreciate it. If any of you have any more advice you could give me I would love to hear it. Thanks again! |

| If you REALLY want a Yorkie, there are plenty to adopt! In fact, I just got off a thread that's been running for a short while regarding petfinder.com, if you look under New Posts, you should see it. |

| Try finding dog show in your area. Go and watch and AFTER the judging, go and talk with exhibitors/breeders. Just make sure they have time to talk to you. Their knowledge will be of great benefit to you.

So I guess what I am saying is... Maturity is the bigger issue. Having a Yorkie is like having a child. It's a huge responsibility. You can't just leave them home alone while you go out to the bars (like most people here). So it's not impossible to have a yorkie in college.
