| Has anyone bought their yorkie from this woman? There is a woman in Versailles Kentucky who sells Yorkies for $400. The cheapest I have ever found. They are AKC registered and raised in her home. Not a puppymill. I am just wondering why she is selling for so cheap... The 4 females she has for sell now look playful and happy and healthy. They're sold already but she is collecting names for her waiting list. I emailed her to ask about them but haven't gotten a reply yet. Does anyone have more info on this breeder? Why should a yorkie cost 700-1200 dollars? I mean they eat the same, have the same vet bills, and give the same amount of love as any other small terrier and most other terriers are 300-500. 400 sounds VERY reasonable to me. And i am hopeing some one here can give me info about this breeder. I do not have her name since she never replied to my email but how many breeders could there be in Versailles? If you bought a puppy from her i would love to hear your opinions. Versailles is about 5 hours from me but in my opinion would be well worth a drive to find a yorkie for under 700 |

| I am not familar with this area but if you have her business name/kennel you can see if anything negative has been reported with the BBB. Also there is a website you can go to to see if she's on the "bad breeder list". That website has been posted on here before but gosh I cannot remember it now. Also, you said her pups are AKC. You can also call AKC and they will tell you if she is in good standing with them or not. That is a huge plus right there!! Other's here have paid I believe $400.00 for their Yorkie's and are happy as ever. There is such a wide range in pricing it is unbelievable but there are a lot of factors that take into play with the prices also. Like area, show dog quality or pet, stuff like that. Good luck to you!!

We have our Veterinarian do 3 puppy checks the first at 3 days, second at 6 weeks the third one at 8 weeks. They are vaccinated at 6 and 8 weeks and wormed 3 X's before leaving. He does the dew claws and also the tail with a stitch at 3 days of age. We know just in medical what we have in ours. Ours are also AKC which for us in our belief keep the purity of ANY breed exceptional. Our Yorkie Parents are also our pets. Our prices we believe are VERY reasonable. We are looking at our 2nd ever litters to be ready by Christmas, but don't like counting our Yorkies till they are hatched as per say. Our prices will go up a bit next time around. We also drove 700 miles round trip to Texas to deliver 2 AKC females just today. We will not fly our babies. We will deliver within reason, or meet 1/2 way within reason as not to have to ship them. Thanks for letting put in our 2 cents, just to explain our prices a bit. justus |

| pups I never defend the price of my pups..Yorkies are expensive to raise when done properly..Justis you sound like a breeder who does not cut corners..good for you. I must be a Yorkie snob..may I ask why you delivery your pups...if someone wants one of my babies bad enough, they can come to me..I thought once I moved to Florida no one from the MD, NY are would come down here, but I was wrong! Although, I have been invited to potential pet homes so I can see how they plan to take care of my babies. LOL Last edited by YorkieRose; 04-24-2005 at 05:43 AM. |

Pat, I hope this doesn't sound silly but do you or have you ever ran a credit check to see if a potential buyer of your pups can afford to take proper care of it??? I want to make sure my pups go to people who can afford to raise them and care for them without "cutting corners" so to speak. I hope that doesn't sound ugly I just know it costs to maintain proper care and health of these dogs.

| This is my first litter as well, they are not cheap to raise if you are raising healthy pups. I agree Yorkie rose sometimes I have a hard time on what to charge because I love them more than I want to sell them. I know that everyone deserves to enjoy them , but to charge to little I feel will open doors that should stay shut, atleast in my area. I to plan on delivering my pups up to a certain distance. Of course I will have to post them for sale before I do that.

| [Speaking for myself] I would like to thank the good breeders, such as you two, who really care about the breed and keep trying to help these babies be healthier! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all the work & love that our breeder invested ... Toto is an obvious example! I know how much expense is involved and it was a small price that we paid when you consider everything we got in return. Knowing what we know now, we would have paid ten times over [don't tell Ava!! ]! Seriously, we stay in close contact with her and not only does she welcome questions, she loves to know that all her effort is appreciated and is certainly yielding good results!

| pet owners I hate to tell some people, NO...but it just depends on each person. I have never run a credit check...you know just because someone has money doesn't mean they will spend it on vet care. I had a woman want a pup..she had a sweet female and wanted another...Whispersmom will remember this woman I am sure. Her female was 7 yrs and not spayed. I looked at her teeth and the gums were infected, tartar build up was so bad you could not see any white at all. This woman had diamonds on every finger, ear lobs and wrist...so I asked her why her Yorkie was so in need of vet care? She said she loved her too much to take the chance something would happen during surgery. I would rather see one of my babies go to Yorkie Heaven having proper vet care then to suffer a lifetime of pain from abscessed teeth, uterine infections etc...I politely told her that was a selfish type love and not the kind of pet owner for my puppy. You have to trust your gut feeling, don't be hasty, let people put down a deposit and come visit every 1 or 2 weeks until ready to sell..by then you have time to get to know them, hopefully...references from their vet on past care for their animals is valuable...one man brought a letter from his Pastor..LOL |

| Yes I agree, When Shelbie had puppies, I was so picky about the homes my pups went to that I ended up giving 2 of them to my friends because I knew they would be good to them. I have never regretted it because they are spoiled rotton. I just got way too attached. I turned away several people after interviews over the phone. |

I feel a credit check is not a fair assumption of people. I would pay the vet if I needed emergency care rather than some past due bill.

| You are right Milo! I am sorry and regret that I posted that stupid question!!! My credit isn't that great either and I'm glad no one ran a credit check on me too! It was an unfair assumption that only people with good credit would take care of thier yorkies. I'm really sorry I even thought that! I'm just worried about the pups future well being and I'm thinking all kinds of crazy stuff I'm truely sorry if I offended you or anyone else! Please forgive me!!!

| you will never be forgiven........ lol......jk......... i think a credit check is a little over the top, i agree with the way that you guys screen youre buyers thought, it shows that you guys are way loving to youre babies and their "future" lives in a NICE home...... how many of you put in youre buying contract that you will take back the dog if they are unable to take care of it/moving/ family issues/ ect..... i would love it if that was in my contract (not that im getting rid of toby, but it would be nice to know that i have "support" in case anything goes catastrophically wrong) |

| LOL! I hope everyone sees my apology and doesn't think I am a bias coo coo head! I really didn't mean it....honestly! I spoke it before I thunk it through I'm definitely putting the "take back" clause in my contract though. I just wonder how you enforce it if you don't really know the buyer and they live far away. How would I know they ever sold it to someone else!

| I think a vet reference from previously owned dogs would be good. Michelle, maybe you could also add a clause that says updates required ever so often.. All the more reason to adopt out locally and not ship puppies to someone you have no idea who they are... |
