| Looking for a small doll face yorkie in Southern California I am looking for a more doll face looking (shorter nose) & smaller size (preferably less than 4lbs when matured) yorkie baby as a pet in Southern California. (near Irvine, CA) There are a few things I would like to highlight: 1. I would like to visit the yorkie before deciding to take him/her home? (This is actually very important to me. I don't want to just pay for a baby yorkie by looking at the pictures in stead of seeing him/her in person.) 2. I'm still undecided on whether to get a male or female yorkshire terrier. I think the personality is much more important than the actual sex. Would you explain some of the most significant & obvious differences between a male & female yorkie to help me decide? 3. I indeed believe in the time & energy a breeder's put in breeding quality yorkies; nevertheless, I don't want to overpay. I can afford a price approximately $1000 for a yorkie that is really worth it. 4. Will the yorkie baby be vaccinated, dewormed, pad (litter) trained or introduced, & have health guaranteed before I take him/her home? Thank you for taking the time to read my long post. I am a newbie. It's just so exciting to find a forum full of yorkie lovers and cute yorkies. Wish you all the best! |

| My advise is to learn all you can about the breed and what makes a reputable breeder, before you look at pups. It's very hard to walk away from a Yorkie and they are all cute puppies. Have you been to www.ytca.org ? You can learn about the breed standard there and perhaps start to understand why you may have difficulty finding a babydoll face, tiny dog from a reputable breeder. Most good breeders won't breed for that. Tiny dogs are born sometimes (same as larger ones) but they are in high demand. Most Yorkies in Southern CA from good breeders are close to $2,000. Pet shops and backyard breeders are closer to $1000. but there is more risk involved with buying from them. Specialty breeders (those breeding for tiny, babydoll face) usually charge more than everyone and as I said, it's hard to find someone reputable. Take your time, learn about the breed and breeders. Find a breeder you trust and get on a waiting list. You may find a cheaper puppy but if it isn't healthy, it will cost you more in the long run. Good luck |

| Hi, DooDoo, I am basically looking for the same dog. Short snout, under 4lbs when matured in Southern California area. Tell me if you find anything. Whatever you do, just don't buy from Wee-R-Yorkies in Lake Forest, that's where I got Lucky from. The lady there doesn't care about her dogs after they're sold.

| If you're looking for that kind of dog for about $1000, you're going to have to look outside of California. And even so, it'll be a little bit more than just the $1k you're willing to spend. I know of a reputable breeder who is selling a 7 month old female Yorkie that weighs about a little bit over 2 lbs, but she's in Ohio. And I'm not sure what the price is. She won't ship, so you'd have to fly over there to pick her up.

| It is my assumption that you would not be breeding this dog if it were a female and maybe so for a male. If that is the case, for a female, it is highly possible to purchase a female yorkie, that is unregistered here in WA for under $1,000. I have actually seen breeders go as low as $700 for a female that is not registered. Registered AKC males usually go for $800-1,000 and registered females starting at $1,200 - $3,500. Just a thought.

You can buy "yorkies" for under $1000. here in CA too. Especially unregistered ones. The problem is Backyard breeders don't care about the breed standard and don't have the knowledge it takes to breed for health and temperment. It's very risky to buy from that type of breeder. Always sad when members on here are disappointed when their Yorkie doesn't look like a Yorkie. We need to encourage good breeding practices for these wonderful dogs. | |

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Doo Doo I pm'd you. I also was wanting to ask a question, what is a back yard breeder? Does one have to have a kennel license to be considered a good breeder? When we first started looking I visited several homes that had yorkies and was breeding but they weren't kennel licensed, so would they be considered back yard breeders? We are also looking to get a small female playmate for Baby Blessing. Thanks, Patti |
