Regardless if some are tired of hearing it or not I think everyone on a YORKIE site should be aware that the term "teacup" is GENERALLY NEVER used by reputable ethical AKC breeders, not for a marketing tool or any other reason, oh except to say that there is no such thing.

I am sick of hearing about how teacups are soo expensive for this reason or that reason. The truth is they are very expensive because it is the current trend to have a very small dog. PERIOD.

This is not intended to start another debate, these are facts and I just think they should be out there too.

This is not a FACT.
I am not interested in a debate either.

All of my breeders are AKC, reputable and extremely ethical and all used the term Teacup as a size description.

To lump all who use the term as "not ethical and not reputable" is simply untrue and UNFAIR IMO.

Kim I give up. What I wrote IS true, I have absolutly no reason to say this otherwise. I am not a breeder, I don't have that many breeder friends. BUT I can read and what I have NEVER seen on a reputable ethical breeders website is the term teacup used as a marketing tool.
Suffice to say you and I do not agree on what is a reputable ethical breeder.

Just sharing information here, but I ama new yorkie owner and did tons of research before getting my sweet ralphie and i found it very helpful to know that the term teacup was a descriptive term not a type of dog. If i had not read that in my books, I would have thought it a more expensive smaller breed of dog, which was bread for (i agree cuteness and trendy-ness. ) .. It is a misleading term in general for new puppy buyers so i can see how that upsets some.... It would be good if all breeders, ethical or not, calrified that term when using it.. dont you think?

You made a wonderful point and you're very right. It IS misleading and like you - many people actually DO think it's a seperate breed....and in many cases the word IS used to command a higher price.....which is why I think it sparks such discussion.

The breeder I got My Chanel from uses it....She did NOT have tiny yorkies when I got Chanel ....but used the word to charge more and still does. It's very misleading in some cases and why so many people feel they were deceived when they actually paid a high price for a normal sized yorkie.

Pam, how is your search going? Have you made any progress? I see that there's not been a whole lot of help for you on this thread, (which has since been diverted to ANOTHER teacup discussion) and I also see you have not posted a whole lot. Don't be afraid. Tell us if/when you find a gold puppy at a reasonable price. I hope you do, and soon. Good luck!

Glad....I referred her in the other thread to my breeder in Texas who is ethical and reputable beyond reproach, Ruthie Freeman.....she is the breeder that I got Chai from and Chai is an all blonde yorkie.

Pam...did you contact Ruthie?

These yorkies are not very common (afraid to say "rare") and so she may need to go on a waiting list.

TEACUP,TINY,TEENY,,,THESE TERMS ARE WHAT YOU WILL SEE POSTED AS ADVERTIZEMENT ON SOME CANINE
BREEDS WHICH ETHICAL BREEDERS STATE AS EXTREMELY TINY AND UNUSUALLY SMALL CANINES.

ETHICAL BREEDERS WITH EXPERIENCE USE THE TERM TEACUP OR TINY IN THEIR OPINION TO DESCRIBE THE PARTICULAR
UNUSUAL TINY SIZE OF THE CANINE WHICH THEY SPECIALIZE IN BREEDING.

IT IS USED ONLY AS A DESCRIPTION OF AN EXTREMELY TINY VERSION OF A CANINE AND NOTHING MORE...

KEEP IN MIND WHEN PURCHASING A TEACUP OR TINY FROM AN ETHICAL BREEDER,,,THAT THE
SIZE IN WHICH YOU PURCHASE IS LEFT UP TO THE HONESTY OF THE ETHICAL BREEDER AND THE EXPERIENCE
WHICH THEY HAVE EARNED OVER THE YEARS OF BREEDING.
.
THE TEACUP AND TINY SIZES ARE EXTREMELY DELICATE TO RAISE AS PUPPIES FROM THE TIME THEY ARE WEANED
AND MUST BE HANDLED APROPRIATELY BY AN EXPERIENCED ETHICAL BREEDER UNTIL THE PUPPY IS READY FOR HIS/HER FOREVER HOME.

SOME BELIEVE THAT A TEACUP OR TINY PUPPY IS AN EXTREMELY UNHEALTHY CANINE FROM BIRTH AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO LIVE . NOT TRUE!!

SOME BELIEVE THAT A TEACUP OR TINY PUPPY IS ALWAYS THE "RUNT" OR SMALLEST OF THE LITTER. NOT TRUE!!

THERE ARE MANY,MANY ETHICAL BREEDERS WHICH SPECIALIZE IN ETHICALLY BREEDING TEACUP AND TINY SIZE CANINES, AND BECAUSE OF YEARS OF EXPERIENCE KNOW HOW TO ACHEIVE THE CORRECT
HEALTHY PUPPY WITHOUT HEALTH/GENETIC ISSUES OF ANY KIND.
LENGTH OF LIVING YEARS OF A TEACUP OR TINY IS AS AN AVERAGE SIZE CANINE AS LONG AS THE TEACUP OR TINY CANINE HAS THE PROPER LIVING CONDITIONS.

ONE SHOULD FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE ETHICAL BREEDER IN WHICH YOU PURCHASED YOUR TEACUP OR TINY SIZE CANINE IN ORDER TO ACHEIVE A LONG LASTING,HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR NEW TEACUP OR TINY CANINE .

SOME BELIEVE THAT A TEACUP OR TINY CANNOT BE REGISTERED... NOT TRUE!!

THE TEACUP OR TINY CAN BE REGISTERED WITH THE REGISTRY IN WHICH THE BREEDER HAS THE PARENTS
REGISTERED WITH OR A REGISTRY WHICH ACCEPTS DUAL REGISTRATIONS IF YOU CHOOSE ANOTHER REGISTRY..

MORE TO COME!!!!!!!!!!

I am really glad someone is trying to help her. Poor woman. I just wish Pam's thread had not gone the "off topic" route. Can we pull it back in line maybe?

Sorry, I have never heard a "reputable" breeder refer to dogs as Teacup, Toy, Miniature, Standard and Giant (ha ha ha), but whatever, argue away if it helps you to pass the time.

Pam~
I did talk to 2 of the breeders I know here in our great state (for you and someone else who had asked) and they did not have any, and only knew of one person close that did, but trust me, you DON'T want to go to this lady--she has "about 50" dogs all together in a chicken house and there is no telling what you would even end up with. Also, they said she didn't have registry rights anymore, so you couldn't even get any papers on them.
If I hear of anyone, I will surely let you know!

No problem. I don't know every breeder accross the nation, but I know some of the ones here. It was the least I could do to check around (I needed to touch base w/ them anyway.) I would hope someone would do that same for me...that IS what we're here for, right?

I feel extremely sad for this lady who has lost someone dear to her and all you guys can do is say sorry....and on a second note!!! What is wrong with you guys!!!! I would say your not living in the 21st century!!! Marketing 101, Economics 101!!!! This woman is grieving...get control of your fingers and type something that says "I'm truly sorry for your loss...here are some helpful hints" PERIOD end of sentence. I'm not liking what I'm seeing with this site...
