| Married Couple Looking for Yorkie (NY/NJ) Hello, My wife and I are looking to adopt a Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie). I know a lot of people on these forums have more than one, but we are still trying to get our first. We were supposed to get our Yorkie recently, but unfortunately, we were scammed. He stole our money, and sent us no dog. Because of our tight budget, we cannot afford too much to purchase such a pet. I can assure you we will provide an amazing, loving, and warm home for the little one, and it'll be showered with love and attention by us all the time! I work part-time, and my wife is home while I work, so there will rarely be a time where it is alone at home. We may not be loaded with cash, but we'd take great care of the dog, and we have tons of love ready for the little one! We are willing to pick up the dog ourselves, and to meet with the current owners in the NYC/NJ area. A dog would be a welcome addition to our family! PLEASE consider us! Thanks!! |

| Basically, it was an elaborate scam: I had emailed someone from PetLoop.com for a Yorkie. He replied that he had no more, but someone who he had sold to had to re-sell, since they were being relocated to Nigeria. I e-mailed this other person and we spoke over about 25 e-mails, and I was pretty convinced. We agreed that I'd send $200 up front, and the other $150 upon receipt of the dog. After sending the payment, I didn't hear back again, but I did see that the payment was picked up (Western Union). So we lost our $200. Luckily I was smart enough not to give her the whole sum up front... I now see that these scams are pretty common - since then, I've gotten at least 4 other similar emails. But the bottom line is that we still have no Yorkie |

Maybe someone can't keep theirs (maybe because of small kids, or a new job, or something...) It's just disheartening, because we were all ready for ours, and now we have to wait who knows how long.

| Have you tried the YTCA club? That's how I found Brutus. Just do a search in the area. There was a breeder that I can't remember the name who is a big Yorkie breeder but wouldn't sell me one because of my young kids. Keep looking and I hope you find one soon!

| You can also adopt from local shelters or www.petfinder.com for a small adoption fee.

| Nobella posted the www.petfinder.com and there is also a rescue in NJ called Save our small dogs that has yorkies for adoption www.sosdogs.com If you are concerned about budget, these are the most reasonable alternatives. Most rescues have dogs fully evaluated for health issues before release so there won't be nasty/expensive surprises down the road. A bargain-priced yorkie from a breeder is generally no bargain at all. best of luck in your search. |

I keep checking petfinder.com, but I can't find anything. As for SOSdogs (it's actually sosdogs.org), they won't let me adopt since I have not had a dog in the past. Anything else?
