| Looking for a male Yorkie in NJ around christmas Hi, I want to surprise my wife with a Yorkie for Christmas this year. She has wanted one for a long time so I want to surprise her. I live in Northern NJ but will travel if need be. I am looking for a reputible/ethical breeder. Any help to point me in the right direction will be appreciated. Thanks. |

| I hope someone can point you in the right direction, we need more people to seek out ethical breeders and not buy from pet stores. Good luck.

| Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Way not get her all the supplies for a new puppy and find a great breeder and then wait for the puppy. I don't know many reputable breeders who will let a puppy go around the holidays!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | As a breeder I Do NOT sell surprise puppies, I do want to meet with the potential parents , now if a single person then I MUST meet with that ONE person, it is important to build a relationship with a breeder, for example I have a family in the next town waiting on one of my girls, the girls just by chance are ready by Dec 25th.. because we have a relationship of over one year, yes they been waiting that long for a silky, I am letting them take the puppy on Dec 24th, they have a 14 year old that is been wanting her for ever. I have met with the parents twice, and I know i am doing the right thing. I only sell my pups locally and keep track of them. so is very, very important that you both meet the breeder a good breeder is going to become part of your life, I have built great relationships with my puppy parents, specially I doggy sit my puppies when they go on vacations, and they know they can always call me with any concerns.. best of luck in your search. |

| Christmas is such a hectic time for us humans, imagine what it would be like for a puppy who is trying to adjust to a new home. It would be really sweet if you bought puppy supplies (toys, brushes, bed, etc etc) wrap it up and give that to your wife. It still sends the message that she's getting the puppy she's always wanted for Christmas. she'll get to pick out her own puppy, and the breeder can meet her, which is a requirement from an excellent breeder. Do check the YTCA breeder referral page. You can get a jump start on the research and have a few breeders on your list for you and your wife to check out.

I travel for business on a weekly basis and she is alone during the week, therefore this would be an ideal idea so she can't spend her her attention and time toward the puppy. Her sister already has one and she absolutely loves it and sometimes we house sit it when her sister is away. Anyhow, I will do more research about breeders, what would you say is a fair price for a puppy? Thanks for the advice thus far. | |

| I was able to get in touch with a few breeders through YTCA, most want 2,000 for a pet male Yorkie in the North Jersey area, that does sound reasonable? I was hoping to pay anywhere from 1000 to 1500. The Yorkie in question is small (will be 4 lbs) when it's an adult. |

ditto!! Last year, I had a husband want to give his wife a Yorkie....I sat at length with that husband and explaned why I do things like I do....he was not sure he wanted to understand, but he, I think a bit reluctantly, went along with the program! I gave him a little baby book that I send home in all my puppy paks....it is just like a baby book for your human baby, only it is for the puppy. He wrapped it up and he gave her the book for Christmas....when he explaned what was going on, she was absolutely giddy! They then both came, we talked, and they went on my waiting list...they waited almost 8 months before their baby was ready to go home....she got to go through the breeding, the excitement of the ultrasound of momma, the birth of the litter, her getting to select her little girl, and finally getting to take her home! That whole time leading up to the birth, then each week until they get to pick the baby up and take it home....that is all so treasured by the new parents! And as breeders, we get the satisfaction of knowing our baby is not just a "flash in the pan" thought, that after a couple of months, no one really wants to fool with. Donating YT 3000 Club Member | We have been looking for a pup for a few months. I am home during the day. He is going to be my pup to keep me company. I really would like to pick out the pup that I would be spending my time with. It is the excitement of talking to breeders, looking at all the pups. Getting to play with him or her. Watching the pup grow from just born (with pics) to 8 weeks when they get their shots so you can actually go see the pup. To going to pick the pup at 12 weeks. You bond with the pup. Maybe it is a woman thing. It see each week 3-6 pictures coming through email with how the pup is doing. How big he is getting. Puts the biggest smile on my face, almost glowing as my DBF says lol you feel like you are watching him grow. It might be fun for her to have the same experience. You get to watch her glow. Good luck. And after Christmas is over give her the site and she can chat with us. We would love to go through the excitement with her. We are crazy like that . . .yorkie crazy lol |

| That's a nice surprise! However, if I were in her shoes, I would MUCH rather look over any potential new pack members and pick out the puppy MYSELF! You are not going to know which pup responds to her the best or has the personality she would like unless she is there to view the litter.

Most breeders unless they know you well, haven't interviewed you personally would be very reluctant to let a pup leave home over Xmas time. I love the idea of a gifting card, puppy things, and then when you are both ready to go select out the pup
