YT 500 Club Member | Yorkie Wanted in South Korea I am an American who recently relocated to Pyongtaek, South Korea. I want to add a Yorkie to my family, but I'm not sure how to locate a reputable breeder. There are puppy mills everywhere, dogs being sold in the subway, etc, but I can't seem to find a quality breeder. Help! Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm about 40 min outside of Seoul and willing to travel anywhere to meet with a breeder. Thanks! |

| I just got back from South Korea. My husband and I bought a Yorkie there. It was from a place called Cool Pet at the IPark Mall in Yongsan. The place had a vet on site who was extremely good. I honestly thought our dog was from some poorly bred puppy mill, but he has the perfect coloring, he is very calm, rarely barks, good with kids and hasn't had any health issues. He is very healthy and many local Yorkie owners here in GA have comented that he seems so well bred. Unfortnately I have no proof of his lineage, but I never asked. You could try and ask. I never bought a dog from a pet store before, and proably never will again. But things as you know are done differently in Korea. And I reccomend this place highly. They did all his initial shots, including rabies for free. He had regular free vet checks when we brought him for his shots. They even did a test on the vaccines they gave him to make sure he had enough antibodies in his blood streem. And if a vaccine did not take they re did it. |

YT 500 Club Member | Thank you! Thanks for your reply, SgtYorkieLover. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. It's been a month since I posted the query, and I am very anxious to find a dog. There have been a few dogs at the shelter on base, but no Yorkies, unfortunately. While I wouldn't mind getting an older Yorkie, part of me really does want to get a younger dog. I'll check "Cool Pet" out. Thanks VERY much! |

| I take it you're at Camp Humphrey's. My husband and I are starting to miss Korea. There's a lot of fun things to do there and the markets are awesome. Animal hospitals aren't a bad idea either, my platoon SGT got a yorkie from an animal hospital near base. Its funny because he made fun of me for getting a yorkie. Then he went and got one and now is totally in love with the breed. |

YT 500 Club Member | Actually I'm at Osan AB, about an hour from Yongsan. I think I am pretty close to Humphreys though. How do I find an animal hospital? I assume you mean a Korean animal hospital.... the shelter on base never has much of a selection, which I suppose is a good thing since it means that not a lot of dogs have been abandoned. I just arrived in Korea about a month ago, and I'm still getting used to it. I spent the day in Seoul, so that was a fun trip. There isn't a whole lot of shopping in my area. |

| The animal hospital my plt sgt went to was in Itaewon right next to Yongsan Garrison, outside gate 3 if you're familar with that post yet. There's 2 or 3 in that area that I saw. I lived in Itaewon, it was on of the places people go to shop and eat out. (Although for straight up shopping you already in a good are for that, or I would suggest Namdaemun, or Damdaemun markets for that) Itaewon is more touristy and caters more to expatriots. If you've been to Itaewon I could give you directions, other then that you could catch a cab on post and ask them to take you to a vet in itaewon. They might know where to go. |

YT 500 Club Member | I am somewhat familiar with Itaewon. I've been there a couple times already. If you can point out the general direction, that would be great! I'm guessing I wouldn't have much luck with a taxi driver finding it, based on my experiences with taxi drivers so far! Thank you for being so helpful! |

| The taxi drivers are a bit tricky lol. It took some time to learn how to communicate with them. When I go into work tomorrow I'll send you the google map I had to do for my last unit. That way I can mark on it the landmarks and where abouts the vet hospitals that I know of are at. |

| I'm not sure if this will come out big enough. If you want PM me your email and I'll send the map to you. Anyway, I outlined Yongsan Garrison on the map and marked the animal hospitals with a star and also good places to eat with a smiley face. If you want a puppy and end up going to IPark Mall. That one isn't difficult to get the cab to go to. They go there all the time, just say IPark Mall ju se yo (please). Coming back to base from the IPark mall with a cab is a littles trickier. Most cabs dont understand what you mean when you say Army Base or Yongsan Garrison. Its better off to use the nearby subway stops for reference. So tell them Nakseoungpyong Gu or Nakseoungpyong Saewa, it means Nakseoungpyong Station or Stop. If you want them to stop before they get to the station, say at gate 10 near the dragon. Say Yogi o or Yogi ju se yo. Its not too terribly far to IPark mall you can walk it, but until you know your way its easy to get lost. |

| Hello, I just want to wish you luck in finding your new baby, My husband and I were in Camp Casey about 2 hours north of Yongsan, I got my baby there her name is Tinkerbell, she is so beutiful, I got her from a vet/petshop, I didn't ask about her lineage either or where she came from as I had no idea about puppy mill. I did visit a place in Seoul called ChungMuru or something like that and it's horrible, with all the puppies in display. I think it can be tricky to find a good reputable breeder in S. Korea as most just get sold in petshops/vet clinics. Tinkerbell is the sweetest dog, she is so layback and just listens so well, I got her at 6 weeks old. I dont regret getting her there but I wish I had done more research. I also got a Maltese there and he is also good and healthy. Only problem I have with Tinkerbell is that ever since we got back to Fort Hood Texas she suffer from allergies, but who doesn't here I never had problems with allergies and now I suffer too. Good luck, and my family and I miss Korea too.

| They sell them young out there we got ours at 6 weeks too. Yours is adorable BTW. I have to admit I was impressed with the vet pet shops. The vet was very knowledgable and you could tell she cared for dogs. Tamama never cried when he got a shot from her, every other vet yes, but not her. |

| Hello :] I'm wondering if someone here has gotten a Yorkie from Ipark, would you mind telling me the price? I'm sorry to be so rude, but I have to drive about 4 hours to get to Seoul and so I don't want to be dissapointed when I get there. |
