Default Morkie wanted- NY

Hello, I came across this forum in my search for a morkie from a reliable breeder in the New York area.

I am looking for a smaller golden, apricot-colored male or female morkie puppy that will be under 8 pounds.

Any information on where I could find a reputable breeder, or information from anyone selling morkies would be greatly, greatly appreciated!

All I meant by reputable is someone who does not sell their puppies from puppy mills or have bad conditions for the puppies. Though I have heard of reputable breeders having accidental litters, maybe I should have stated reliable breeder instead?

I have Morkies. I am a small breeder and I don't think there is anything wrong with mixing the breeds. How in the world do you think we get some of the breeds we have now. A Yorkie is just a mut when you think about it. They did start out as a breed. It took years until someone said "Look here it a Yorkie"

Default "Designer" Breeds

All dogs trace their ancestors back to wolves in one way or another.

As for cross breeding by people, it was usually done for a reason as dogs typically served a purpose. Yokies were originally 15 lbs or so and were used by miners to hunt rats/mice in the mines in Yorkshire England. There were cross bread with Maltese to give them their long hair BUT it was done for a reason not because someone wanted to buy a "morkie" (note that a Yorkie IS a Morkie as they all have Maltese in them).

As for today's "designer" breeds.......yes, one day they may be recognized as an actual breed by an organization such as the AKC but it won't be for many many years.

Many of today's designer breeds are because of bad breeders. They market a Yorkie and a Maltese as a "Morkie", and charge a bunch of money for what is essentially a mutt. People buying the dog don't want to call it a mutt but "Morkie" sounds much better (and more expensive). Or the case of the poodle mixes........they are marketed as a dog that will have hair an be better for people with allergies.....not necessarily true. When you mix two of anything, there is no guarantee what you will end of with. So you just take your chances.

Now after 100 generations and a large genetic population later, things could stabilize and you will start to end of with a "real" breed.....a la the Yorkie of today.

To us, a good breeder breeds to develop the best of the breed. They want to promote and produce healthy examples of the breed. Typical breeders only breed one or maybe two breeds because of the time and effort involved to producing excellent examples of the breed. Any breeder that purposely cross breeds and promotes and sells mutts as something special is IMHO not a true breeder but more like a backyard breeder. We work REALLY hard to produce excellent Yorkies and do everything possible to be sure they are healthy and great examples of the breed. Its disappointing to hear of breeders that breed mutts for sale and market them as something special.

Just my opinion.

We need to protect the yorkie breed...not destroy it. If you want a mixed breed, just go to the pound and get one. It'll save a life.

I'm aware that wanting a morkie may be looked down upon by pure breed advocates because of the whole designer breed trend and the selling tactics/exploitation by bad breeders out there.

And I am aware that a morkie is, essentially, a mixed breed and shouldn't be sold by breeders at such exorbitant costs. I have been looking high and low for a morkie to adopt so please don't condescend me about adopting a mixed breed rather than buying one.

I've been looking for a responsible breeder, meaning someone who is not just breeding morkies to profit and someone who actually cares what kind of home their puppies go to. Which is why it has taken me so long to actually buy a puppy.

I've had a yorkshire terrier before that was very precious to me and I love the breed. However, I'd like a morkie puppy now for a variety of reasons. This forum (and I'm aware that it is a Yorkshire Terrier forum) was a hopeful attempt at finding a morkie puppy from a responsible person who loves dogs.

Any information, again, would be greatly appreciated. And thanks to those who've responded!
