Welcome to YorkieTalk!! You will find a lot of good information on this site!! Everything you could need to find your perfect puppy and how to take the best care of her. You can find some breeders in the Featured breeders section or the Yorkies for sale section. But I will warn you and tell you that there is no such thing as a teacup!! It is only a marketing term used by disreputable breeders. All yorkies are toy dogs. Good luck on your search!!

Good Morning and Welcome to YT! The above poster is correct....no such thing as a teacup. This is a turn used by some breeders so they can jack up the prices of the pups. I have also heard the word "teacup" used to describe a small pup. I have 2 girls, one is 6 1/2 lbs and one is just about 5 lbs. Let me tell you....they are small and I worry about them getting hurt all the time. I couldn't imagine having one smaller (although I know there are members here that do). I would be a nervous wreck having an animal that small. And no good breeder will ever guarantee the weight of a pup. Just be careful and good luck in your search.

Welcome to YT. Yep, the word, "teacup" strikes a nerve her on YT, as there is no teacup Yorkie. It is only a standard Yorkshire Terrier, which is "up to 7 lbs."

When looking for your pup, I suggest taking a look at adult dogs and asking how much they weigh. It's difficult to know how big a dog is at a certain weight until you actually see them. I aquired my sweetie a few months ago and had no ide how small 3 lbs really was. At 6 mos., my Trixie is just over 4 lbs and I hope she grows to be at least 5 lbs. Not always, but the tiny ones do usually come with some scary health problems, not to mention the risk of their skinny little bones breaking from simple things, like jumping off the couch.

For the most part, you're safer going with a Yorkie in the 4-7 range. My Trixie is so small at 4 lbs, she goes with me everywhere, and I know at 5 lbs she will still easily be able to do the same.

Good luck with your search for your new baby!

hi and welcome - I suggest you read and read and read - especially about the word 'teacup' and issues with very tiny dogs before you actually 'get' one. I don't know why someone would intentionally want one that small - but to each his own -

Have you considered getting a hampster instead ???? ....

seriously - Read the site site especially the Emergency section and health - learn all you can before you buy a yorkie - especially such a tiny sized one

I have a smaller one for now (I hope) 2.1lbs at 13 weeks and I'm always a nervous wreck. At his first vet appointment my vet made me feel each and every bone in his body to make me more aware of the dangers of him jumping off the couch, stepping on him, etc.

It also doesnt help that he loves to go for the toes whenever you walk. I have to make sure that nobody is going to be walking around the house if he is on the floor playing because I dont want to risk anything, with someone getting up and him making a dash for the feet.

If I had a bigger yorkie then I def wouldnt be as paranoid.

I know what you mean. My Matty is 3 1/2 pounds and I think she's done growing. Everything is double the stress with her. Then I have Kalina at 5 1/2 pounds and hauling her big butt around is awful - why, she weighs more than a bag of sugar!!

To the OP, welcome to YT. I hope you find your perfect Yorkie - though IMO "all" Yorkies are perfect.

Welcome!!! All of the above is true. I have a tiny little girl. She was the runt of the litter. Her bros are almost double her weight. My baby weighs 3.8 lbs. She was under 2 lbs when I got her. (My birthday gift) I was so worried she would get stepped on. I'm glad she is pushing 4 lbs. However, I'm not sure she will hit 5lbs. She is in perfect health. And will be spayed when the vet says she is old enough. If you get a tiny girl. Please don't breed her. Just enjoy your pet.

I am not a breeder, just wanted a lovable lap baby.
I too, have a tiny little girl, runt of the litter. She was 1 lb. 2 oz. when I got her. She is now 18 months old, weighs 3 lbs. 9 oz.---stands 8 inches tall. My vet said absolutely NO, she is too small to breed. If I insisted, I'd better be prepared to lose puppies & her as well. She was spayed at 6 months------has had no health problems at all. She gives lots of wet kisses & unconditional love.

We have a little "teapot". She was about 7 lbs., but finally started eating and is now 8 lbs. She is very portable and goes with us everywhere we can take a dog. She has had health issues just like the smaller ones but is basically healthy. I wouldn't have one much smaller, even thought they are really cute! I just worry so about her. Anyway, welcome to YT and good luck to you.
