| Looking to purchase a Yorkie for my son, fairly cheap I am interested in purchasing a yorkie teacup for my son for fairly cheap, if possible. Daddy is in the Coast Guard and is gone an awful lot, so thought this might make him feel better. We live in California in the bay area. So I would like it to be someone fairly close. Just let me know if someone has one for a reasonable price. Thanks |

YT Addict | Hello and welcome! Good luck on your search for Yorkie. Unfortunately, the Yorkie isn't a "cheap" breed. Especially since you live in Ca. I'll keep an eye open for puppies in your area!

| I am coming to realize that. Our neighbor has one and thats why I decided I wanted to get one. She got hers really cheap, but it happened to just be pure luck. Thanks, for the help, I would really appreciate it. |

| You will find a yorkie much cheaper if you don't look for a teacup. Breeders who use this term usually charge more for the yorkies. Good luck!

| How old is your son?? One thing to conisder when getting a yorkie is size. Yorkies vary so much in size..from just a few pounds to 15 or 20. Sometimes with children a larger yorkie is a good idea because they tend to be more durable! I know you will love having a yorkie. I adopted Baby for $500 but it was because she had a hernia, so with the vet costs, I paid as much as I would have for a pup without a hernia.. (but i wouldn't trade her for the world, she is my angel!) Anyways good luck! |

| Your welcome!!! If you want a smaller yorkie you can sometimes get one by getting the smallest of the litter. I have a 3lb girl and thats how I got her and I didn't pay any more for her.

| How old is your son? I agree that you need to be very careful with a Tiny dog and a small child. Yorkies have very fragile bones, especially if you are thinking of getting one on the smaller side. I would think that with a child, you would want one about 5-6 pounds which is still very small for a dog in general and is still within the breed standard. As far as price... I don't know of any cheap Yorkies either... I paid almost 2K for each of mine. Then you throw in grooming, vaccinations, teeth pulled, spay/neuter... they are an expensive breed to maintain as well. There are several members on YT that are in your area... you might try posting in the regional section also and maybe you could attend one of their meetup groups with your son so you could meet some other Yorkie lovers and get someadvice on finding a breeder with the right pup for your family!

| im from california ..... i spent months browsing newspapers and the pennysaver..... i got toby for $500....... how cheap is cheap to you???? the first thing you want to get straight is how much you are willing to spend, if you go and look at puppies they can steal your heart right away and you will want one so much that it is best to decide your price range before hand and stick to it...... i know that there were several yorkies pups on petfinder a few months ago for $400, it just takes persistance..... i will keep an eye out for you, oh, and the advice you got above was good advice...... if youre son is younger than it would probably be a good idea to get a larger yorkie like mine (he is between 10-15 lbs) |

| I know that I cant afford to spend $1000 on a dog but like $400-600 would be ideal. Thanks for all the information. Its much appreciated. |

| A thousand is a pretty good budget. I love this breed and would recommend them to anyone as long as they know what is involved. I have a 6 year old son and a very small pup - 2.5lbs! For months, literally, before we got Chewy I just drilled the rules, things like don't try to ride him (he did this with our old dog!!!) Don't run or chase him, don't pick him up, etc...When Chewy finally arrived, my son was good to go. Depending on how old or young your son is you can just try to prepare him. Tara had a great idea about going to the meetups. It really would be a great way to see them in action. Good luck and I'm sure you will find the right pup for you. They really do bring you so many giggles!!! |
