That is true......... vet bills can cost $$$. And a new puppies shots also can add up. Then there is a spay/neuter bill........ additional "hundreds" of dollars.

You may want to save up for awhile. That way, you will also be able to research the Yorkie Breed. (they also can have some health issues that you will want to research so you don't end up with a Yorkie that needs surgeries that cost Thousands of dollars.

Yorkies are wonderful little dogs, and I am sure that you would want to take the best of care of it once you get one.

Good Luck!!!

Have you tried a rescue? That's the only place I know of where you can get a Yorkie for under $500. Or maybe an older one somebody is trying to place?

Try http://petfinder.com/ and type in your area, and you should come up with some for that price...

Hope this helps!

We do not allow begging for free puppies or puppies at extreme reduced costs. Yorkies are generally from $500 on up, with most being in the $1000 to $1500 range. Please do not post looking for Yorkies below $500. If your budget for a Yorkie does not allow for $500 or more, you may want to look into Yorkie rescues or adoptions of older Yorkies, as they may be better suited to your price range. Feel free to PM sellers with an offer, but the public forum is not a place to beg or whine for a Yorkie.

Finding a yorkie for under $500 might be hoping for too much. I would save a couple more hundred up then look again. My Chachi was only $600. But that is cheap for a yorkie

Also there are alot of ads on Puppyfind and other places for yorkies that are $400 or less that are scams. Please dont fall for those. You will get your yorkie puppy just save a little more. Youll be glad you did

It didn't seem like she was "begging" or "whining"... many people are alarmed by the price of the breed when they first look into purchasing (I know I was).

I would recommend you take some time to read through your local classifieds. Many times, I have had friends who have stumbled upon yorkies needing to be re-homed at very reasonable prices. It isn't impossible, but you must be patient and you must do your homework! Good luck on your search and welcome to YT!

I'm sorry, but I didn't take it as a beg or whine either. That comment wasn't really called for. Some people who are new to the breed don't know, and are coming here for advice, not to be talked down to.

I purchased Gino for $600 at 7 months old from a breeder who shows some of her yorkies..she was keeping him to show, but he developed a slight under bite and one of his testicles didn't descend all the way. Sometimes you luck out, and get one for a lower price. All she has to do is some good research and she will find the right one for her.

Didnt catch that thread, Michelle. Cant see and find every one.

If admin wrote those rules, fine, but when someone posts admin rules...that person should quote the rules or say "in the rules admin says".....

Default I agree

It did seem harsh. Although it is the rule. We should find a nicer way to tell people that stuff. What I don't understand is why if they have $500 today, they can't save for a couple of months and spend what we all spend on them. I mean I know there are exceptions... but sometimes it is better to just save and get a quality dog and in the meantime keep an eye out for a dog that is going to be a teapot (a lot of breeders sell these for cheaper) but you can save while you look.

You may be able to find a yorkie for $500 or under, but I'd be very careful and look more into a rescue or older dog.

Even if you get a puppy at a cheaper cost, there may be health issues from going with a less than honest breeder that doesn't do health testing. Those costs can go easily into the thousands if there is a medical issue.

If you looked into an older yorkie that needed rehomed they would likely be spayed/neutered and have all their shots up to date.

I know you didn't mention this, but do you have savings for the routine shots and spay/neuter/possible teeth extraction that happens within the first few months of their lives?

I know when I brought mine home their spays were 250, shots were around 250 and then they needed heartworm monthly, advantage for fleas.. all of that. I'd say I almost spent double what my dogs cost me within the first month of their lives just on those small routine things.

Not trying to gang up on you or anything. Some people do know about those costs and just prefer to keep their puppy purchase price under a certain amount. I just wanted to point it out in case you weren't aware

Good luck to you in your search!
