Question for show breeders I am thinking about purchasing a male yorkie with the hopes of showing him. Not right now but possibly in 6 or 8 months. But my question is, how much do you think I should expect to pay for a show quality male? I'm just looking for a ball park figure so that I know what is reasonable. Any advice is much appreciated.

From an established, reputable, show breeder anywhere from $3,000.00 to $5,000.00. If you've not shown before it'll be a difficult quest to get a quality yorkie, from an established, reputable breeder. As they do not readily let go of the show dogs go, without knowing and trusting you. It will be on a co-ownership, stud rights and possibly a tight rain on who the dog is bred to. With an time-line as to when the dog should have to be finished and if not pointed by a certain age, a stipuplation that the dog must be sent out with a professional handler. There will be no hopes of showing the dog, it will be a requirement within the contract.

Ditto!! Some may also request a puppy back after finished championship and helping to make decision on whom to breed to for that first time. T.

thoughts on show puppy I tried to post this earlier, but didnt see it post, so I will write it again.(sorry) I spent years trying to buy a "show" puppy. None of them panned out and after many disappointments, I finally found the right one. He came from a very experienced breeder and has some of the best show and show producers and BOTH sides of the pedigree. He was much more expensive than the original hopefuls I purchased (2 grand) and worth EVERY penny. I showed him until he was 14 months and had a blast!!! Then I sent him with a handler the breeder recommened. He was a champion in 4 months. I missed him EVERY day!! The handler is a top handler in Yorkies and her price reflects it too. BUT, she could show him to his championship faster and cheaper than I ever could. She is the expert, I am not. I dont regret anything. I was looking for a show dog and one that could improve the quality of my puppies. I think that these 2 goals are very important when deciding on purchasing a show dog. Yes, I have breeding restrictions, but I think thats good because I dont want the years of HARD work of this breeder ruined in one generation of careless, indescriminate breeding. Good luck finding your puppy!!! Lynn
