| Whoa! Slammed hard, lol! I will leave out names but I just got back a NASTY email, from a small time Canadian yorkie breeder who shows just a little bit. As many people here know, over the past months I have emailed countless breeders, just talking, asking questions and learning from many breeders. Either they never respond, or I get VERY nice emails and some even offer advice, some I had the opportunity to talk to in person...etc. I always explain my intentions upfront, I am not looking for a puppy now, I want to show someday, looking for info, advice, anything. I am polite and I believe friendly. I tell them about ymself, how I became interested...yada yada... Well this 'lady' emailed me back (I emailed her maybe a month ago)... I was told to basically not bother with my "pipe dream" of showing. I live in NB where there is only one show breeder, and in the Maritimes often only 2 yorkies max at shows (if that). She said no breeder will ever give me the time of day because I live too far away, I will ruin any good dog like all new people. For anyone to take me seriously i should move to a major city, like Toronto or Vancoucer, and attend every show for one year. My other "major problem" is my children, she explained how puppies are killed everyday to bad parenting, parents letting their children kill show dogs... She concluded her charming letter with the sentance "People cannot just walk into the show arena, they must be invited. And you my dear were not invited." !!!!!?????!!!!! ^%^%$&^^@^#W*&!!!! Huh??? This was the nastiest, venom filled email I ever received. I did not write back because personally I thought she was a scary.... I think she was way over the top and hubby and i actually had a chuckle on her behalf. I TRIED to see her side of the picture, she had some valid points in the fact I am far away from nearly all the great show breeders...so how did people in remote area of the US and Canada get started themselves, when yorkies were not as popular? I did not ask for a puppy, assume anything, was not rude... I am not naming her, maybe something bad happened that day, maybe she missed her meds...I am not sure (maybe she is like this normally?) but I will give her the benfit of the doubt. But holy cow! lol (It takes all kinds of people to make a world....)

| Wow -- that was harsh! I can't believe someone could be like that. Very generous of you to think she was having a bad day but it sounds like that is a person that leads a very unhappy life. "Have to be invited" pfftttt! Best of luck to you in your future venture. I would like to think about breeding some day too. I read and read.... the more I learn, the more I know I have more to learn. LOL! But this world definately has room in it for a couple more Yorkie breeders who are interested in doing this right.

| Well how rude...you are a better person than I am because I probably would have given her a piece of my mind. I think you are being very responsible by finding out all you can and learning about yorkies. Good luck to you. |

| That was totally uncalled for on her part. If she wasn't interested in you, she should not have written. She went out of her way to be very mean and hateful and I would have written her a nice long letter that she would not soon forget. She's the REAL bitch of the pack. |

| Sounds to me like she's afraid of some good old fashioned competition from someone, obviously you are committed enough to do everything necessary before starting out, who is very likely going to end up with a Class A Show Dog and put her out of business. And I hope you do! That's a horrible way to welcome someone into the world of Champions. Someone needs to boot her butt clear up above the Artic Circle and out of the competition ring - but send her babies to you to raise where they'll be better off anyway.

| Don't let anyone take away your dream, there will always be stumbling blocks and it's just a test as to how bad you want it.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | your good...I would have sent her a virtual kick up the arse. How nasty is that. You know and I speak from experience from when I was looking to buy my first yorkie. I got in contact with a few show folks and they really turned me off. I would have thought that their love of the breed would shine but all I got was some nasty stuck up folks similar to the one that you contacted. One in particular told me that there is no need to try and own a pet quality dog as it's a disservice to the breed and that no show/breeder in their right mind should sell me a dog being as I have children. She did her best to turn me off on the breed and in general belittle me as best as she could. The thing is that it didn't make a hot difference to me being as 1) I had done some breed research already and 2) I was determined to get my dog....it's just sad how nasty some people can be.

| Wow.. sounds like Oscar's breeder in Oakville... she wasn't overly friendly to me even when I was RECOMMENDING her to other people! I dont do that anymore!!! I wouldn't have been able to hold back from sending a reply that nasty email. Kudos to you for exercising self-restraint - and truly being the bigger person. I'm a small person.. I like to have the last word Don't let one breeder ruin your dream of owning a showdog - this breeder had to start somewhere too... I wonder who 'invited' her???

| I am sorry this happened to you! You are right it takes all kinds of people to make the world go around. Even nasty self righteous rude ones! I know how it is to try and get started in the show world. One time I thought this lady (I am not mentioning names either) was really trying to go out of her way and help me! She had her yorkies in the YT magazine and was very knowledgable. So I purchased my first show female from her and the amount of money I paid was alot more than I would have expected to pay. I was so excited to receive my show girl! Well needless to say I was ripped off big time. My new show girl came to me with grade 2 and a grade 3 luxating patella and to top it off she also had a c-section scar! So the laugh was on me! My show girl was nothing more than a beautiful pet! It is so hard to get started, but if this is your dream do not let anyone take it away from you, ever! Competition in any kind of sport can make the ugliness in people really come out! But YOU have as much right to be a part of showing dogs as anyone else and never forget that! I strongly believe that when placing a puppy/adult yorkie in a home with children it depends on how well mannered and behaved the children are. Just because one has children does not make them exempt from owning, showing or breeding yorkies! As long as their children are taught to love and show respect that is what matters! I have rescued more dogs (all breeds) from irresponsible ADULTS! I know of a show breeder that placed two beautiful show males with a lady on co-ownership and the show breeder gave this lady a wonderful chance to make it in the show world! But it was more important for this lady to sell interest into the dogs with another breeder behind the show breeder's back (WITHOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE) and post them on their websites for stud service. I guess they were thinking of the money they could make off of Champion Sired Stud Service! To make a very long sad story short, one of the show boys was killed while in the possession of this lady and the other one has now been safely reunited with his breeder. I also might add the show breeder had offered multiply times to purchase the boys back. It is sad this lady and the lady that bought interest into the show boys did not have their best interest at heart! If they had both boys would be alive today. If you are determined enough you can do anything!
