| UKC and a major win The UKC has a major win very similar to that of the AKC. I am hoping to get my major win soon and finish my girl's ch with them. (I bred this little girl and lost her mother shortly after she was born, so this is double latte' extra special to me!) The points system for the UKC is alot different from that of the AKC. The UKC is a very serious club who pride themselves in working dogs who are bred to "do" what they were bred to "do". I find this to be very important to me as well and I truly love and enjoy showing with the UKC. They are a great bunch of folks who do not play games. They are also a great club to start out with in showing for those of you who need experience. NO PROFF HANDLERS! Just keep in mind they are actually more expensive to enter under, sometimes being twice as much for an entry as an AKC show. I am entered in 5 classes next weekend with AKC in winston salem; some with a beautiful girl that someone very dear to me is in-trusting me with to show to the best of my ability. (I've won with her before and she is a pleasure to work with...a TRUE example of the breed) This little beauty is already a UKC champ. I'm thrilled and very honored to say the least. Alot of my friends who are in yorkies are going to be at this show and we are all going to have such a great time together!! Please wish me luck and best wishes going out to all of you who are showing in the next few weekends. Last edited by ButterflyYorkie; 08-03-2006 at 09:56 PM. |

| Requirements for AKC Champion Title The dogs entered in a particular breed are divided into three categories: 1) Class Dogs (males that have not yet finished their Championship), 2) Class Bitches (females that have not yet finished their Championship), and 3) Specials (Dogs /Bitches that are already Champions.) All the Class dogs compete first, and after the various classes, the judge picks the Winners Dog (WD). The judge then judges all the class Bitches and picks a Winners Bitch (WB). Then the WD and WB go back into the ring and compete with the Champions for Best of Breed (BOB), Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed (BOS), and Best of Winners (WB), or better between the WD and WB. The WD and WB will win the “points” toward their championships. The number of points earned is based on the area of the country where the show is held and the number of dogs in competition. To complete a Championship, a dog must earn 15 points. These must include two major wins (3, 4, or 5 points) under two different judges and at least one point under a third judge. The BOB breed dog then competes in the Group Judging. At AKC shows all the breeds are divided into seven Groups: Sporting, Working, Hound, Terrier, Toy, Non-sporting, and Herding. The first place dog from each of the Groups them competes for Best in Show (BIS). Requirements for UKC Champion Title A minimum of 100 championship points Points must be earned under at least three different UKC licensed Judges, and Win three Best Male/Female (or higher) classes at three different shows with competition under three different UKC licensed Judges. one can accumulate his/her required 100 points without any competition in the ring but will not not receive his or her championship without competition, one needs (3) competition wins. The AKC bases a major on the amount of bitchs/dogs entered into the competition. The more entered the higher the major with a maximum of 5 points, where as UKC you can point without any competition in the ring but requires a Best Male or Best female win to receive a competition win (not a major). Best of Luck

Thank you for posting this information as I'm sure there are people out there who did not know this. I guess I didn't make myself as clear as I should have in my o/p. Probably because I wasn't thinking in terms of breaking everything down for everyone, just wanted to let some of my friends know that I'm hopeful and excited. It has been my experience from showing in UKC and with other UKC competitors that when you receive your championship and then go for your grand championship in the champion class which is like BOB in AKC, that is a Major Win. My teacher who just so happens to have UKC champs and has been showing since the tender age of 15 has always referred to her Major Wins regarding UKC competition(s). I am very hopeful to receive a Major Win someday as it is a goal to UKC competitors. If you ever compete in a UKC show, I'm sure you will find that their are many differences regarding some of their terms. Very different in many areas. No brushes or combs allowed in the ring. My teacher suggested that I do not even have them out at ringside. In the AKC you will see them sticking out of back pockets. I would also suggest to anyone who is interested to watch a junior's competition at a UKC show; 10 times tougher than in AKC. I have had to learn both of the club's rules and pts. systems. I was very much aware of what a "major" meant in AKC but I appreciate you taking the time to post it for me. Best of luck to you too. Last edited by ButterflyYorkie; 08-04-2006 at 12:23 PM. | |

| Want to know the biggest difference of all between the two clubs? There is NO "toy" class in UKC. |

| And to think...people wonder why on Earth a breeder would be driven to only breed, but not actively 'show.' |

| There is a huge difference between the two clubs nothing to do with brushes it has all to do with competition. UKC you do not need any other dog/bitch in the ring to receive points. You can accumlate 25 points per show WITHOUT any competition. To receive his/her championship you need 3 COMPETITIONS (not Major) which means you have to beat out at least one dog/bitch for the title of Best male or Best Female 3 times. AKC in my region (requirements are by region) At least two dogs/bitches must COMPETE to receive 1 point. 4dogs/5bitches must COMPETE to receive 2 points...three points and above are considered majors 6dogs/7bitches must COMPETE for a 3 point...8dogs/9bitches must COMPETE for a 4 point and 11dogs/12bitch must COMPETE for a 5 point. hope this helps clarify the difference, I know all this "Jazz" is confusing at times.
