| Show start---Asking all Show Pros!!!! Hello, I am new to YT. I was wondering if all the show breeders and owners can tell us their story of how they got started? I am trying to get started and would love some inspiration. Want to make sure I am taking the same path....ha ha... thanks a lot! Shirl |

| Welcome to YT too! I got started back in the late 70's. I had been married for a few years and was working for a vet and fell in love with the yorkie breed - seeing the pthers yorkies coming in to the vets office/work. Just perfect for me! I even looked like a yorkie. I know weird, but I would pull me hair up from the side and top and clip back. Yes, I know a real topknot. You know what they say - people do look like their dogs. So I bought one yorkie named Chrissy. Well, yorkies are like potato chips and had to have another (a few years later), so I watched the paper. One person in Palm Beach was selling both of her females, since they were moving abroad and could not take them for some reason. So I got both of them. I then decided to breed when one came into heat. Well, I was very picky and was learning all I could about the yorkie standard and was figuring out their faults and good points, so decided to go looking for a compatable male and since I was looking - wanted a champion. Well I found one and a nice one too - from the Windamere lines. They knew Connie Hutchins of Pregresso and all the other people of the yorkie crowd then and they introduced me to them. And before I knew it I was joining the local yorkie club and soon after showing and bought another yorkie (male) from the Mayfair line. I even bred him to a Heskethane line female - beautiful pups! Showed the one I got with my handler and finished her. It was great at the time too, because I was not having any luck having a baby - so my yorkies were my babies. Just be patient and it all will happen in time and perserverance. T. |
