| Attending a dog show to learn before getting a puppy? I am new to YT and am trying to learn as much as I can about yorkies. I would like to one day get a yorkie puppy of my own. I am not in a hurry because I want to make sure I am fully ready. One way I thought I could learn more is to attend a dog show. There is an all breed show on Feb. 19th in Maryland about 30 min from my house. I have never been to a dog show so do not even know if there would be an opportunity for me to talk to anyone there with a yorkie so I thought I could ask you guys what you thought. Good idea, bad idea? Please know that I do not want to show yorkies but want to learn as much about them as possible BEFORE I am a yorkie owner. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give me.

| Welcome to YT! I think dog shows are a great way to meet breeders and learn about the breed. From what I have heard, there is a part of the show where you can speak to the show people. Have you also considered rescue? There are some awesome pups in rescue just waiting for the right person to love them forever.

| I have attended only one show (in Maryland ), but I think the best time to approach the exhibitors is afterwards. Before the show, they are busy grooming and preparing their dog(s).

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | For sure after the breed is judged is a great time to talk with the Yorkie exhibitors. Just look at the judging schedule because usually Yorkies are the last breed to be judged in toy breeds, and often times immediately afterward is group judging. For sure exhibitors will not want or have time for questions before breed or before group judging. Sometimes comformation shows also have some Meet the Breed events, and you can look to see if this is happening by looking at the Premium lists for up coming shows. You can go to www.akc.org and look up "events" in your State to see what shows are coming, and then click on the the hosting club to find the premium lists. About 7-10 days prior to show start the show superintendents will post the judging schedules which allows you to see what time and in what ring the Yorkies are being judged.
