| Brain overload Have read "The Winning Edge" & "Going For The Blue" this week and it is a lot of information to absorb! I am sure the first time I show up at an event everything will fly right out of my head lol The Nashville Kennel Club is having a Sanctioned B Match Saturday August 14 with a puppy class for 3-6 months. What exactly will they expect from a pup that age? I am debating it at this point.

Sanction "B" Matches are just practice matches. They provide your pup and you to gain practice and confidence. The judges are very forgiving of pups at this age. Even in the regular conformation classes where you can obtain points. Relax, have fun. You've got to start somewhere.

| Wolfie turned 4 months on Tuesday. I weighed him this morning and he is exactly 2 3/4 lbs. I am having him evaluated by a local lady who recently retired from showing/breeding. Hope to have that done asap, we just have to find a time that works for both of us. I tried to take a picture so you could see his topline but but he didn't want to cooperate lol. He didn't understand my trying to lean back and take a picture at the same time. Also, I have been trimming his ears myself, hope I haven't ruined them. Any suggestions?

Go on and do it. The experience will be anywhere in the range from fantastic to not, but each baby step you take takes you further along that range.

| We have not attended a conformation class as they do not start til Sept. The website I checked hadn't been updated with the right times. I hope I am not teaching him incorrectly and will have to "unteach" it in the future. But he seems to be having fun with it so far.

I did everything by the book and followed my mentor and other experienced show people to the T. All informed me from the get go, that if I had a good dog, that I should hire a handler as to not ruin the dog. I did exactly that and didn't begin to show until my mentor and the handler felt my skills were good enough to take a dog into the ring myself.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I admire your courage as well. Go out do what you can. You wont' ruin your dog in one wkend of showing. Then take your classes, get some yorkie breeders evaluations of your dog. Have fun

| Arrive early. Allow your dog time to walk around the building to sort it out. Then put him up for resting as you set up. Just because all dogs appear well trained, never trust them with Wolfie. Did you get a show lead? Do you know how to do a puppy topknot? Make sure not to use a conditioner in that part of the coat on show day. The match will be very laid back. Some people like you, some with experience just getting dogs out. Get there early. Watch the judge/ring you are in so you can see "the direction you will need to walk in when you approach the ring and move in". I suggest watching some show videos to see ring formation. Do not hesitate, being new. Get on the ground in our breed to stack. Even if you see all self stackers, if you aren't one then to the floor double time. Don't look at others, they may not. It's okay to make a fool of yourself. Know you came with you dog, you will leave with him. Nobody else matters but you two. If you don't understand something ASK for a repeat. Don't allow anyone to run up on your dog. Be aware of the person in front of you as well. Bring bait and a squeaky, find the button then work it. Above & beyone, have fun. If anyone tells you something to do with your dog that makes you unhappy politely decline. Oh, do the mirror test. Practice, practice practice. Don't feed your dog until after you go as long as its an early time. Congratulation on your new step. |

| Thank you again for all of your responses! I so appreciate all of the advice. Thank you for considering it courage but it is probably more along the lines of not knowing any better : ) But I figure they cannot eat Wolfie or me or take away our birthday so what the heck lol It might be our one and only time. I do have a show lead but I do not know the correct way to do a puppy topnot. If you don't mind could you explain that?

I just read my reply. I can't make sense of what I typed. I should clarify, your puppy is a baby. Do feed him. Just go have fun. The rest will come together. Don't take it too serious. While there's no reason to be nervous, it is an incredible thing you're doing. But it makes you so incredibly nervous you can't think! There's nothing to the puppy topknot. Just part it, little teasing, spray, band, tweaking, poof if (smoothen too) then a bow. If he's very young only walk him a tad when you first arrive. By this I mean 10 feet. You don't want to make him more tired than he will be. They may buck & kick, spin & bark. There are a few that go in and demand attention. A yorkie can capture the crowd. People always love to watch matches. They can shine in a match, pressure free. Some have nice prizes. It's the early beginning of something I hope you will take by the reigns. I wish you had a mentor. Hope you have others that enjoy to enjoy it with you, people that will take pictures. You will have the best breed there. | |

| Just got home from Wolfie's evaluation. He isn't too bad lol He has a good bite, ear set, silk coat, cute face and show dog personality. Just have to keep an eye on his topline (may be a just a tad higher in the rear which I had noticed. He was pretty level when I brought him home but in the last couple of weeks it seemed his back legs grew more than his front) and see how his color breaks. Biggest hurdle is he is so dark. So her recommendation was to not show him in anything but puppy matches until his hair hits the floor and hopefully he will be cleared up. She felt it wasn't worth risking dq's for his dark coat til I see how he comes along. She even told me she would have kept him as a pup herself to see how he turns out which made me happy of course. So we will do some conformation classes and matches in the mean time and see where that takes us. Should be a fun journey! We will definitely be doing the match this coming weekend!
