| Becoming Yorkie shower Hello! I want to begin my research and journey into the world of dog showing (not for at the very least five years.) I was unable to find a mentor (very disappointing) so I was wondering which site and books recommended? Preferably with illustrations and history of the yorkie. Also some basic questions. What is showing like? You don't have to breed even if you show, yes?

What is showing like? It is so fun! You get to see some of the most beautiful dogs in your breed and then go into the ring with your own and see where or if you place! It is very competive and it takes a lot of work with a yorkie (grooming) but it is very fun! I have learned so much and continue to learn so much from all of the fabulous people I have met thus far. You don't have to breed even if you show, yes? I am not a breeder, nor at this point do I want to be. I am happy with my male and I am enjoying showing him as a hobby and learning so much! I have thought about breeding but enjoy the competition and work it takes to put your dog into the ring. Like I said, super new but it has become an addictive hobby for me!

| No problem! Also some books you might be interested in -- Best in Show (my mom's BF had this book on the shelf and I only got threw less than half of it like a year ago ) : Bo Bengston Click to Win! : Karen Pryor Haven't read this one, but a friend has for her Border Collie. She is going to Karen Pryor Academy (a dog training academy using positive reinforcement to become a dog trainer) and she absolutely loved it! Its a book about using the clicker in the show ring. I would also recommend watching a BBC documentary called "Pedigree Dogs Exposed". It shows the more umm, ruthless side of showing/breeding. Here it is on Youtube: (there are 6 parts all of which you can find in the related videos, I gave you the 1st part). Last edited by CJxDanielle; 06-29-2010 at 11:34 PM. |
