| YTCA meber or not? I'm addicted to this site and do read lots of different threads during the day. I have visited the YTCA website numerous times to get information also. I was wondering how many of you that show or breed are YTCA members? Why or Why not? |

| I'm a YTCA Member. Why? Because I show and breed to improve the breed and because YTCA is National Club and holds it's members to a strong code of ethics and conduct. The club is a great way to learn whats going on in the health of the breed, legislature and is in the forefront of most matters that are Yorkie.

| I am not yet, but would like to be. I live so far away out in the country. No, local club in my state either. I am a member of my local all breed AKC club. I do agree with you both. It is so important. I was a member of the branch in So. Fl. years ago. We had a lot of fun and it was a great place to learn. Donna, best of luck! See you tomorrow. I have to leave after work, so will take me awhile - getting there very late tonight. |

| Thank you all for your replys. I do believe in the code of ethics by the YTCA. I'm glad that you are happy with the club. I have heard stories that not all clubs are as they show on the website. I'm glad that YTCA has happy members that are glad to be part of the club. I look forward to joining. I live in south Louisiana and after researching, it looks like Bluebonnet and the Houston Yorkie Clubs are the closest to me. Houston is about a 4 hr. drive. I will email the secretary to see what is involved and how many meetings I must attend to be an active member. I know that I would have to help with the local shows. Good Luck to anyone showing this weekend!!!!!!!! |

There is good in bad in every club.....however, as in everything else it's what you put into it. However, YTCA is the mother club. Donna and I are both members of Bluebonnet. You may wonder why since I live in California. I moved here from Dallas, and Bluebonnet is my home club and always will be. Even from this great a distance I'm still very involved with Bluebonnet, and have handled the trophies for the last 5 years. Both of us know many people in the Houston Club. Being you're out of the area joining a regional club is not as involved, you are not required to attend so many meetings prior to being voted in. But, you will be somewhat checked out and will require sponsors. The one draw back being along distance member of a regional club is you do not have any voting power. A bit different with YTCA. YTCA is a bit more involved, it is handled a bit different and somewhat requires you to be invited into the club. 2 Sponsers that have known you for a period of no less than 2 years with one having visited your home recently.

In addition the YTCA has a breeder referral person that one can contact, that person knows where to send people.

I know that when I refer people to specific breeders I am very familiar with their breeding practices and always prescreen potential new families before referring them. When I send people to YTCA.org,it's up to the person to do their homework from there. Being a member of YTCA or a regional club and getting on their referral list is not the main purpose of members. Since most members are exhibitors first and primarily breed for themselves. So, when people are looking for pup from a YTCA member, it's pretty much hit or miss....since we breed minimally and don't always have puppies available....Same with most regional clubs.

| Good. Referring people to breeders is a big responsibility, what if something goes wrong.....I'd feel I was somewhat responsible. So, it's best to be familiar with breeders breeding practices and keep in mind the pups welfare as well as the potential new family.
