| i show a little AKC and a lot of UKC. The headquarters for UKC is in kalamazoo Michigan. There are shows every weekend somewhere in michigan. UKC is a good place for a new person to start unless you are really brave and just jump right in AKC. there is a thread in this forum about the difference between the two. Many people show both venues and may judges that oyou see or hear of in AKC also judge UKC . here is the link to the website. it tells you everything you need to know pluss under dog events, there is a list of shows listed by month. Good luck. www.ukcddogs.com |

YT 1000 Club Member | Hey Christina, I show both AKC and UKC although right now I am taking a break. If your dog is AKC registered then you can register it with UKC also and then it will be considered dual registered. I have a friend that shows both also and there are some others that are going to be doing both in the next month or so.

| It would be both so you could show it in either type of show. Many show dogs are registered with multiply registries. Since you are close to Canada I imagine a lot of dogs in your area might also be registered with CKC (Canadian Kennel Club). |

| I am just getting into showing myself. There are 2 shows coming the weekend of the 19th and 20th here in Michigan. One is UKC and located in Charlotte, Mi at the Eaton County Fairgrounds. This is where I am going to start my show career. ......I am nervous but am going to do it anyways. There is an AKC show the same weekend in Jackson. You may want to attend both and see the difference between the 2 venues. I bought what I thought were my first 2 show dogs over a year ago. They are both beautiful dogs but neither really has the show attitude. I am however going to try and show one of them in UKC that weekend. Mainly for practice for me. They gave me a gorgeous litter of puppies and I had them evaluated at 8 weeks and held 2 boys back. I will be taking them both to the UKC show and also to the AKC show that weekend as there is a puppy match in the AKC show that weekend. You may also want to look up some conformation classes in your area. I go to a place just south of me the town escapes me right now ....sorry my brain is tired today. But if you google conformation classes in michigan I am sure you will find something. Dee gave you a great suggestion to have your girls evaluated. That is a good place to start. I would attend a few shows and get a feel for the atmosphere and how it works. I have been to several and love going but still have so much to learn. No matter how nice a dogs conformation or beauty not all dogs are meant to be show dogs. I am finding that out!! I have one of my puppies that absolutely loves the lead and practicing but my adults just do not enjoy it as much. It is as much or more a part of a show dog than anything. If they don't have the attitude sometimes you just cannot get them to show. It is not fair to force the dog and it is certainly not good for your confidence. If I get to the show and they will not show so be it. We will have tried. Otherwise I will move on with the puppies I kept back. I am nervous but looking forward to the challenge! Good Luck!! |
