| Does she respond to squeaky toys? Somehow you have to get her attention so she will look up. I know what you mean though about the choking. Are you using a kindness show lead like this: Dog Bows: Yorkie Bows, Maltese and Shih Tzu Show Dog Bows & Show Leads You have to make sure the lead is high up on the neck, more under the throat area and not around the trachea. Just try to make showing fun for her and hopefully she will start getting her head up. We would love to see pictures of her. |

| You got some great advice by bjh. Just be sure to talk to her the whole time so she is paying attention to you and not the floor for crumbs of treats and food. I would also try baiting her, so she knows you have the treats and not the floor. She will get the idea the more you work with her. Best of luck! |

| I've found with different dogs, I've had to use different leads. Some neck pieces were just a bit wide. With dogs that do this, I've found that if, I hold them back a bit and I start off first, it forces them to walk with their head up and the neck piece is automaticaly higher. In other words adjusting your pace....she's fighting the lead.

| i am so glad you asked this question. i am showing a male that does the same thing. probably why he doesn't have any competetion wins yet. LOl he is gorgeous and walks good. he doesn't put his nose on the ground like a hound dog but gaits with his head lowered. Like you, if I pull it up he gags and chokes. i am trying to slow him down. i think I have got him going to fast. The last dog I championed was a fast pace dog and I have got in the habit of walking fast. I have noticed that IF I can slow him down, he does much better. Right now, we are working n clicker training that one of my friends on another list is teaching me to do it. We have a huge AKC show the last of August and unless I can get the head under control, I am not going to be able to enter him. I thought it was how I am putting the lead on or something. I have several leads and they all seem to slip back to the shoulders, giving me no head control at all. |

No and if you don't mind could you send me the link or pm the info. i would appreciate it. I have a couple with just a thick braid under the neck but it is no good. i have never had a dog that liked those. i have Kindness, resco, martingale. i just feel like it's something I am doing and I can't for the life of me figure it out. no matter where I place it, it slids back to his shoulders. now, that being said, I really like the Kindness leads with the satin neckpiece but the neck piece is 3/4 inch wide. i have been told that is the problem but the other leads aren't like that. | |

How do you hold the lead; is your elbow tight against your body and does your arm stay steady? cause I had this problem with Go-Go always led with her head and gagging, then she'd walk along and try to bite the lead....she was fighting the lead. I found that she didn't like the neck piece, so we had Karen make her a special one....very short, fitting just under her chin and very narrow....that didn't work so, we went to the very soft satin small braid.....and me changing my pace and starting off before her, also really pulling my elbow in towards my body and my upper arm and wrist angling back (that kept the neck piece in the right postion).....Me making those 2 adjustments made all the difference. Karen is out of Oklahoma, she's the only person I'll get my leads from. She custom makes them according to your height and your dog. Karen Coleman 405-386-5466 or 2591 Magnolias9@aol.com

| uf....I replyed about the lace, but it didnt post so...I use a very thin satin lace without the leather in the chin area. since she`s small, she`s walking fast in the ring. And wile running - shes snifing the floor or just going with the head in one line with her spine (in usual days everythings fine). Sometimes I loke at world show yorkies - their pacing and being held a litlbit in the air makes their walk look so graceful...I would be soo hapy fore a pace like that |
