| Is he show quality at all??? Hello Yorkie friends! This is my little boy Prosper. I bought him from a show breeder and I would really like to get into showing. He will be my first show dog (if he can be shown) and I need some info 1) If he is show quality at all. His parent's had the correct steel blue coloring and I am thinking he will too. He is 19 weeks old now and his blue is coming in. He is about 3lb. now so I am thinking he will be around 4.5-5lb. full grown. Does anyone have any tips or anything on how to get his coat shinier? We might have his first match show next month and I want him to look amazing. Please don't be nice about this...just say if he is anything any of you would consider showing. Thanks for your time! P.S- He wasn't cooperating well in the pics and I couldn't get him to stack right... |

| Hard to tell at this age but he has a nice top line. I agree you need to keep the tips of his ears trimmed. He's going to be up on leg it looks like but I don't mind that. What is his pedigree? Who's his parents, grandparents? Did his breeders sell him as a show prospect? Is the breeder a co-owner? What kind of contract? All depends on yours and the breeders intention with him. Was the parents health tested? Free of genetic defects? Did the breeder sell with full registration intented for show? Lots of things to consider when getting a show dog.... You did ask LOL Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

| Hi, Like I said...I just got into the showing/bloodlines thing. I am not sure. His pedigree is coming back from AKC soon and then I can list grandsires and bitches then. His breeder said he could probably be shown, but obviously not absolutely amazing amazing quality or she would have kept him herself. I am full owner...i didn't want any co-owners. yes his parent's were tested and were show dogs. He does have full reg. for show/breeding. Thanks for any tips... |

And of course the first thing I noticed were his ears. Please get the ear hair trimmed. Do you know how much to trim?? Do Not do the whole ear. Read up on how to do it correctly. I am surprised that the show breeder you got him from sold him with hair on his ears. Do they have any champions themselves?? Don't worry though. You have to start somewhere. And he may be alright. With yorkies - you have to wait so long to see. You should have seen the girl I started with in the 80's. I loved her sooo much. But it was great practice and it allowed to be get to know real show breeders and learn from them. I kept improving with every dog I got. His coat looks like it will be silky. But get those ears trimmed! They will look smaller if you do. Just be sure to do it the correct way. Also I noticed he has a collar on. I do not have my dogs wear collars. It can rub hair off their and for showing - you need the hair there. Plus neck collars are not that safe. T. Last edited by topknot; 04-21-2009 at 04:20 PM. | |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | he's a cutie! i do not show so i can't be of much help but i do notice he has a nice topline. he is leggy and in the picture his muzzle looks long to me, but what do i know LOL i agree tho that the ears definitely need to be trimmed and you need to take the collar off because it can ruin the coat. Be careful who you let groom your show prospect. I think most people here that show do their own grooming or have other breeder/mentors help them out. Personally I would learn to do it myself unless i knew of a groomer who also shows yorkies and knows what they are doing. you don't want a groomer using the wrong brushes on the coat or whathaveyou, because this can break the coat. i only know what i read here, and these ladies (topknot, sugar's mom, brooklynn) who have already given you advice are great so listen to them

| Are you going to handling classes? If not... then I would wait to put him in the ring for both of you to be more experienced. I've been to shows and there can be a lot of tough competition. You wanna strut your stuff. I would do a lot of research here on YT to find out how to groom for show, what shampoo and brushes to use...... I would go to a show or two and try to find a mentor. Can your breeder help you with all of this? |
