| Lots of questions... Serching for a boy My Husband and I would like to show. We are starting from basics. I know the standard ( to a degree!)and love the breed, but a show dog and a good quality akc pet are not the same thing. I would love any advice on getting started. I also need to know what questons to ask a breeder. How do I find a show quality boy? I see show potential Yorkies listed on sites like puppyfind and frankly I don't believe it one bit. First off they are too young. How can you tell anything about an 8 week old puppy??? I would not buy a tiny puppy. |

| I would recommend you look for a reputable show breeder, someone that is actively showing. You can't really even tell on a 12 week old puppy if it will be show quality or not but it might have show potential. There are so many different 'looks' out there depending on what part of the country you live in. Unless you are already familiar with the different lines out there, you would be best to study the different lines and maybe attend some bigger shows where there are a lot of yorkies to look at. I think you should take your time. Some of your bigger, well known show breeders will require you to sign a show contract so before you do that you have to really be committed to showing. I think you would be better off in the long run looking for a show prospect that is 6 months or older so you will know more of what you are getting. I wish you the best of luck. |

| Probably the best way to start to go to your local club Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Affiliate Clubs or look up here: American Kennel Club - Online Breeder Classifieds Best of luck! |

| Check out the shows in your area Home Page, InfoDog -* The Dog Fancier's Complete Resource for information* AKC Dog Show Events, and Dog Products and Services You can meet show breeders there and get to know them. But wait until they have finished showing for the day. They are quite busy before the show getting their dogs ready for the ring. Good luck and take your time.

| Thanks so much for asking this question. I've been wondering the same thing. I've bought a billion books, left messages at the local AKC charter, e-mailed a few show breeders to see if I could get some advice in this same area. But I haven't heard much feedback yet. I am looking forward to learning so much! Take care and good luck!

Contacting The Yorkshire Terrier Club of Greater Oklahoma would also be my suggestion. Ken Lambert is the President of the club and also a handler. Trish Kulessa is also an officer of the club and a great handler, many YT people have sent their dogs to her to be Championed. They are both wonderful people.

| We need to add too since this is not mentioned much - if anyone is serious about showing and want to really get a show prospect puppy to hopefully show - one must also show that they want to do things right. One has to prove themself. No one is going to give anyone a pup to show unless they have that trust in you. If one has bred before or has yorkies already - just please be sure to do things right and following the ethics set forth by the YTCA Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Code of Ethics There are so many people that do not think about this and then cannot understand why no one will sell them a puppy to show. It goes both ways. You want to get from a reputable breeder, but they want reputable parents for their pups. Best of luck and yes, please go to the shows and join the clubs - this is a good start. This is how many of us learn. T. |

| There is going to be a show in Claremore the first weekend in April. You can go and watch the show and talk to the breeders and handlers after the show. There is going to be majors in dogs and bitches that weekend so plenty of yorkies to watch. Ken and Trish will be at this show Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
