The question of "square" was raised and is legitimate. Though it is not in the official standard, it is discussed in the YTCA's publication, Illustrated Discussion of the Yorkshire Terrier, which reads "The Yorkshire Terrier is a sound, well balanced, compact, neat, square appearing dog though there is little or nothing specific in our standard describing the length of the neck, type, placement, carriage of , etc."

Liz we would love to see pictures...that's sort of mandatory around here!
Thank you so much for sharing that information. I just measured Yogi and he is nearly the exact same measurements, 10" x 10" but my Yogi has a little bigger build.

Thanks, I'll try to get some photos this weekend. And thanks to the yorkie owner who posted the previous thread about a websits re: judging, that's helpful. My yorkie is 11" x 11". The good news is that she has stopped growing in height, but we'll see how much weight she puts on. I as currently showing her at a dog show in our city. The first judge said nothing adn seemed happy with her. The judge this morning said that she is large for a puppy and that I'll have to wait to see how much weight she puts on when she fills out. But she should weigh about 7.5 lbs full grown. The breeder said that the Westminster yorkies were 9 - 9.5 lbs and I suppose that it will depend on the judge. Waiting until her coat grows to the floor to show her again is also a good plan. Thanks, all!

I'm afraid that your breeder is mistaken. I've been to Westminster and the dogs are not that big. Chandler, the number one yorkie last year is 6.5 - 7 pounds. I know because Kirston told me so. I had a 9 pound pet and believe me you can tell the difference between a 6 pounder and a 9 pounder on sight. Like so many things with yorkies you'll just have to see when she grows up. The little boogers can keep us guessing until they are 2 years old. Good luck!

Chandler is 6.5 pounds.

With yorkies being smaller it is somewhat difficult for them the win Best in Show or win Top Group - when you have them all lined up - smaller dogs just do not stand out to the judge. They have to be very, very special to win those - I believe Chandler has won Group 1st before. I know he has placed in the top 4 of Group in the past. He is very nice!

My champion Gigi is 8" x 8".

There is no denying that Chandler is gorgeous. Kirston says he is probably the most perfect yorkie that she will ever have the honor of working with.
Connor is 8.5 x8.5 and weighs 5.5 pounds.

I really like the dog that she is showing now that belongs to Chandler's co-owners. His coat is amazing. Go to their website a look at his pedigree. How can he be anything but gorgeous!

Thanks for your info! I took some photos on the weekend, I will try to post them when my daughter gets home as she downloaded them somewhere on the computer. Hopefully all will go well, but you're right about having to wait until they're adults! Having said that, she's really a member of the family first and a show dog second, so it's all good!

I went Saturday. Marie Bradley's bitch, CH Gaelwyn's Celtic Reflection went BOB and CH Orlane-Elan Ricochet, shown by Kirsten McGregor) went BOS.
