Politics I am new to this site and new to forums. I may not always now how to do things so thanks in advance for your patience. I showed Yorkies 15 years ago. I finished my own; a male and female. I had another female to show and she was stolen. I met my husband and quit dogs to start kids I love me kids and now ready to start Yorkies again. I bought a little female recently from a former friend and breeder. I have NOTHING bad to say about the breeder! I love this little bitch in so many ways, but I'm sad to say I'm not sure I want to show her (breeder gave me option not to show if I choose). 2 reasons: Apparently from the other exhibitors in the area whom are all my friends from showing before, there is one person in our area that wins almost all the time. I cannot give you anymore info other than to say I know why she wins and it's more often than not a political decision by the judge. (In my opinion). So, what incentive would I have to show against this person when others have already warned I will probably not win over her regardless of how great my puppy is? 2. My little female is really adorable. She has beautiful thick silk coat, great color, cute face, nice ears and eyes, pretty good topline (could be a little better to make perfect), nice movement although could have a little more reach and drive, she's compact, cobbey, and has attitude. Her biggest faults in my eyes are lack of neck and her tail! If you have ever seen a gay tail this one will beat it and if you have ever seen a gay tail with a curve to it over the back....she has it. I've never seen this before. So, while she has many good qualities, the tail thing REALLY bothers me and I'm not sure I want to show her because of it. Does anyone have any encouragement or experiences with either of the above? For the record: I am saying nothing bad about anyone. If anything, it is my fault for not noticing the tail when I picked her out, but she was shy at the time and I didn't get a good look at this tail until she settled in to our house and her GREAT attitude appeared along with her TAIL

The tail is your lowest worry in my opinion. She may hold it down more while in the ring or with trianing - not hold it up so high. There is so much going on in the ring, she may become preoccupied and not hold the tail so strong. Sometimes a gay tail comes with a super strong attitude on a bitch. JMO. As far as politics go - I would show her. You might not win everytime, but not all judges are going to give her the win based on favors or whatever. I have met many judges that are pretty fair - there are more fair ones than the other. Just from my own observations. I have had a judge give a win to a puppy against my girl and she had taken all the wins up until then and after that, even a 5 point major. Then the owner of the puppy and the judge was spotted eatting at dinner later that night and the puppy owner was on the show committee. I would not have minded so much if he had picked a better dog, but a puppy that played in the ring and had a hard time walking. Ugh! This has only happened once since I returned to showing. So go have fun, get your feet wet and see what happens. I very, rarely listen to what others say. Go with your heart. T.

I just wanted to welcome you to YT. You really have come to the right place! The girls on here have so much excellent advice to give! I would show her regardless of what politics may/may not exist. As long as you and your dog are having fun winning is a bonus. There so many honest judges that she will definitely have her chance to shine. Good luck in the ring and welcome again to YT!! Ps. Its almost mandatory that you have to post pics of your little girl!

There is lots of politics and lots of pro handlers in my area so I show in another state. I have to drive 3 or 4 hours to get to shows but it is better that driving 30 minutes to lose. Pay attention to judges that put up the handler instead of the dog and don't show to them. There a a couple of judges around that obviously put up friends and pros and we have learned not to waste our time and money. One of them judged at a show recently and the exhibitors did a good job of letting their feelings known. There was a major the day before and the day after he judged but his entry was very low. He did as expected and gave the win to one of his friends but she only got 1 point.

| Funny thing is that it does the breed no good to play favors to "people"! This about rewarding the dog not the people The people are secondary. 15 years ago when I showed my first male and female. All the breeders told me to be ready to loose loose loose. But, I didn't keep loosing, in fact, I won sooner and more often than I was expecting and they didn't expect it either. Now, from what I hear in our area....the politics is even worse. There are very few Yorkie exhibitors left and only 1 or 2 LOOOOONG time breeders I don't know how to post a picture of my little one. I have an animated picture box that I put up last night but I don't know where I put it I followed the instructions on "how to post a picture". I'd like to upload you a pic of this tail she has and wish someone could speak to her very animated tail! I tried to upload a clip of her tail....we'll see if it show up. | Lili...Welcome to Yorkie Talk....I agree with the others...show her and have a good time. How old is your puppy? I have seen puppies with gay tails that as they get older they do not carry the tail that high. I would rather see a tail carried to high than one carried too low. I have seen puppies appear to have more neck as they mature. The person you are talking about that always wins might not always have a bitch to show or maybe at some shows she will need majors and not show. I think there are many honest judges. You just have to find them. We would love to see pictures of your baby. |

Here are a few more small pics. I know the tail is cute, but can I win with a tail like this? It is not only gay, it is curled over When she is less excited, it isn't that curled, but in the ring...we like our puppies to have fun Thanks for all the encouragement.

There are wonderful judges that will put up the best dog. Show your girl. I stopped showing for a few years to get married and have children. It is even more fun the second time around. I enjoy having my children with me and watching them show their own dogs. Good luck to you. Be sure to share your progress with us.

tail Show her..lots of Yorkies have tails like hers...types change. What was once gay is now okay. Funny thing is, the standard says the tail is carry slightly higher then the level of the back...well, now most are pointing to the ceiling. One exhibitor can not win WD, WB and the Breed in every show...go for it.
