I just think that's kindof wrong considering cryptorchidism is genetic...and a cryptorchid dog has 10 times the risk of testicular cancer. Neutering is always recommended so cryptorchidism isn't passed on...more invasive neuter and higher risk of cancer. The AVMA actually says it is unethical for a vet to correct cryptorchidism without neutering the animal.

I totally agree with you MyFairLacy. Totally.

I think she was referring to little gonads that are going to and will drop but are just keeping their own sweet time. Most vets can usually tell the difference. I have been able to tell in the past. Eventually..there they were.

yeah I can understand that...if they are already out of the abdomen and just not all the way in the scrotum then I'd be okay with it. But if they were still stuck in the abdomen I'd have a big problem with it.

Cryptorchidism is an underdeveloped or non-functional testicle that is retained in the abdomen. This testicle can become a cancer risk if not removed. This condition can not be corrected with massage.

The paragraph below was taken from an article written by AKC judge Fred Lanting.

"People who can’t find the testicles in young puppies may be holding the little shoelace-tuggers in the wrong position. The testicles should descend before birth, but are so small and mobile they may be nearly impossible to find on a wriggling pup that doesn’t want to be constrained. But if you cradle the pup’s upper body in the bend of your arm and let his bottom half hang, you should be able to feel them, especially if thumb and index finger are run down the prepuce, one on each side of the penile sheath, pushing the tiny gonads toward the scrotum. You can use the middle finger to feel for them while the other two fingers slide downward and push in that direction. It’s a little like squeezing toothpaste from one end toward the opening of the tube. In some pups, they simply will have to be pushed into the scrotum this way in order to be noticed."

"the testicle was going to drop anyway, or it was in the inguinal canal outside of the abdominal wall and held up by a tight cremaster which loosened as the pup aged."

Lightbulb pup testicles...rofl

I can say that I am ahead of the game and didn't even know it. While looking over my 5 month old male (then 4 months) I tried to locate his testicles and found that they were a little "shy". They now are right where they should be unless he is laying on his back...LOL. I couldn't imagine the two guys would have a hard time with this, they were practically squirming. Thanks for all the welcoming words. I love hearing all the good advice and how caring everyone is for each other.

I can imagine that it would akward the first time you have to look for them. After awhile, playing with dog balls comes as easy as saying you are in the Bitch class.

Chelsea used to be horrified when she got her show entry conformation in the mail. She would show her PRT in American Bred and in Jrs. and the entry would read - Chelsea Thompson, Novice, American Bred Bitch.

I can see Chelsea's face reddening now! It took a while before I could get comfortable saying Bitch. I still don't think I could say it in front of my mother!

long before I ever started breeding, I heard my hubby discussing one of his Beagles on the phone and he kept saying that bitch this and that bitch that. i was horrified and told him in no uncertain terms to stop calling that poor little dog a bitch.

Default TV show

I know dozens of dog show people exactly like that, in fact I know two of the people on the show...stay in "dogs" long enough and we all act like lunatic's from time to time...I think it comes from inhaling all the dog grooming products...
