Default Where to begin...

I want to look into showing MeiLing so where do I begin?

Where would I find a handler? What is the average cost when paying a handler, show fee, associated fees?

I have so many question but don't know where to start. Please any advice, point of direction, links, recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would start by going to some dog shows in your area and talking to some other show breeders. How old is MeiLing?

Default puppy

Since she is quite young, I would advise the same...go to shows and watch, learn, ask about a handling class...you do not want to put her out with a handler until she is in full adult coat, ready to take the points..otherwise you will waste a ton of money. You can show her in the puppy classes and get her started. Can the breeder advise you?
AND...she is a cutie for sure!!!

Like everyone else stated, I'd go to local shows first and go to handling classes to teach the puppy. You can't start showing a puppy in AKC shows until they are 6 months but you can go to the local shows and enter a match I believe.
Handlers charge from $55 to $100 depending on who you hire and that's just taking the dog in the ring and besides the handling fee you have boarding fee and coat care and part of the handlers traveling expenses. I would defintely find a toy handler vs. an all breed handler to start out with. You, yourself can start in the puppy classes to get them use to the ring and the environment but I wouldn't put with a handler until the dog was in full show coat and ready to win.
You can go to onofrio.com and start looking for shows in your area that are coming up.
Again, before putting with a handler make sure the dog is ready to start winning.

Find a local breed club and I think there is a yorkie club not sure and they should tell you where to find handling classes.

I'd go to the toy club shows and the all breed shows on the weekend. The toy show will be on that Thursday and Friday and then the all breed shows. The toy club should have plenty of yorkies there to be shown and after they show go and speak with some of the yorkie breeders. That would be a great start!

it doesn't matter as long as it's a handling class. I don't think they have just a yorkie handling class. I would check into it and see if you can still come and join in but again I'd start the puppy in handling classes when she is about 5 months old. You can take her as long as she's had her shots and maybe just take her to watch and get her use to the sights and sounds of the other dogs and the environment of the handling class.

One of the first and most important thing you need to learn if you don't already know and that is how to grow coat and care for the coat. If you got your Yorkie from a show breeder she should be able to advise you on what products to use. Do you have a grooming table with a arm and noose on it? Your puppy will need to get used to being stacked on a table and she will need to get used to being brushed and combed, and nails trimmed regularly. Your girl is very young and she will be going through many changes. It would also be good to get her evaluated again at around 6 months by a handler or show breeder. You will learn so much just from going to the all breed shows and talking to other show breeders. We are all here to help you all that we can.
