| Can I get some advice on purchasing a puppy? I found a darling yorkie available from a show breeder. She has her listed on her website as "possible show potential". She is 10 wks old and weighs 2 pounds. I have contemplated showing, but I am a complete novice. I also want to get into breeding and the girl I was going to breed came down with addisons disease. I would like to know if $2800 is reasonable for possible show potential and can you really tell at 10 weeks? She will sell her to me full akc as long as I sign a contract that if I decide to have puppies, I will sell them limited (which I would anyway). Any thoughts? Advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

| My advise would be to tread very carefully. See if you can first find a mentor by going to some shows. Make sure that you have seen dogs from their line so that you know what to expect. See who is consistantly winning and who is willing to help out a newbie. Do alot of homework. It's so much better to take your time than to have to start over, I know. $2800. is alot for a show potential at 10 weeks. At 10 weeks old the breeder is just making an estimate and it's anyones guess as to whether the dog will indeed be a good candidate for the ring. Also I'd watch the weight if you are serious about breeding. In my line 2 pounds at 10 weeks usually equates to 4 pounds grown for the gals. That's too small. I was advised to start showing with a male as you won't have to worry about hormones and coat conditions. I've found that males are good for learning with and are less moody. Good luck in your search, it's very challenging but also exciting!

"... LIMITED registration prices STARTING prices for MALES $1,500.00 (and up) STARTING prices for FEMALES $3,000.00 (and up)" means that price for her baby-girl with Full registration is less than "LIMITED registration STARTING prices " Last edited by Yelena; 01-08-2008 at 06:44 PM. | |
